New QuEChERS Kits Improve Speed and Ease of Use

New High Temperature GPC/SEC System

Polymer Char announces the development of a renewed reliable and fully automated 4D Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC/SEC) system with a significant improvement in the IR detectors to measure the composition and molar mass of polyolefins.

The new GPC-IR instrument incorporates new features such as the full integration of the new infrared detector IR5 MCT, with outstanding sensitivity and stability to measure both concentration and composition (SCB/1000C). In addition, other detectors such as a four capillary bridge viscometer and a multi-angle light scattering for Long Chain Branching (LCB) can

be coupled to Polymer Char GPC-IR becoming the most advanced instrumentation for SEC analyses.

Phenomenex Inc have introduced roQ QuEChERS kits, for the cleanup of multiple pesticide residues in food prior to HPLC or GC analysis.

The roQ kits offer a number of usability features specifically designed to facilitate and improve the largely manual QuEChERS technique. Rigorously tested tubes and superior tube caps ensure leak-free performance. The low-extractable tubes ensure the cleanest possible extracts.

In addition, roQ flat-bottom centrifuge tubes are designed to stand upright so they can be easily placed on a scale for sample weighing. The roQ salt packets have a unique, easy-pour design that minimises spills.

QuEChERS is a popular two-step sample preparation approach for the extraction and analysis of multiple residues, which are difficult to target with selective techniques such as SPE. The technique extracts a wide range of compounds of various chemical structures and removes unwanted interferences in the sample. Phenomenex’s roQ is compatible with official methods from AOAC International and the Committee of European Normalization (CEN).

“roQ meets the growing need for fast, user-friendly QuEChERS sample preparation and complements our strong sample preparation offerings,” commented Erica Pike, Brand Manager for Phenomenex. “Food safety testing is a rapidly growing application in many parts of the world and we serve this market with many solutions.”

A wide range of roQ QuEChERS extraction and dispersive SPE (dSPE) kits are available to meet the needs of different food matrices. Phenomenex offers a range of solutions for subsequent high- resolution analysis of multiresidues by LC or GC.

The GPC-IR automates all sample preparation steps, including the initial vials filling as well as an in-line filtration with blackflush cleaning. As a result, neither vials transfer nor manual solvents handling is required at any moment throughout the whole analytical process. Polymer Char's GPC-IR incorporates other technological developments, based on the principles of most reliable hardware, full automation, user friendly operation, easy maintenance and proper diagnostic tools. Some of these features developed are for instance the ones related to the sample care to minimise degradation, that is, taking only the necessary time to complete dissolution for each vial (no longer than desired), shaking instead of stirring and N2 vials purge. Furthermore, other important advantages are introduced like a column compartment, independent from the rest of the hardware, a solvent recycling system or a very comprehensive calculations software (GPC One) developed with the industry leaders, integrating all detectors signals.

Optimal Drying of Aqueous HPLC Fractions

A white paper is available from Genevac that details a high throughput methodology, using its HT Series II centrifugal evaporator, for drying HPLC fractions containing water.

HPLC purification fractions can be notoriously difficult to dry. The acetonitrile or methanol seems to evaporate easily enough but the water presents more of a challenge. Genevac have developed a multiple stage method to enable HPLC purification fractions to be easily dried in the fastest safe way possible.

For a copy of this white paper please visit the Genevac website or contact the company.

The HT Series II centrifugal evaporators benefit from Genevac's 20+ years of experience in solvent removal with leading edge features that provide superior sample protection, flexibility for multiple applications, consistency of results, robust build quality, ease-of-use, rapid high-throughput results and low maintenance. Genevac has developed a number of technological innovations on the HT Series II that assist labs looking to efficiently and safely dry aqueous HPLC fractions.

These include Dri-Pure® that eliminates the unwanted effects of solvent bumping; SampleGuard® that prevents heat damage to

samples while ensuring rapid evaporation and Auto-Defrost & Drain that enables volatile solvents to be collected and safely disposed of. A technical brochure describing ther HT Series II Centrifugal Evaporator range in more detail is available at www.genevac.com/en/NewsPg.asp?S=6&V=1&Page=95

MORE INFO. 69 Vials for Any Application

Thermo Fisher Scientific is pleased to announce that the recently updated Thermo Scientific National Vials poster featuring chromatography vial and closure products for virtually any instrument or application is now available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. This free poster features drawings of crimp vials, screw thread vials, snap cap vials and associated inserts and also includes associated headspace and shell vials.

The poster makes it very simple to identify a vial by visually matching it up with a vial drawing. Along with vials drawings are confirmed and accurate volumes for all vials and inserts.

Contact Thermo to order a copy of the poster to be mailed to you in your preferred language.

Single-Vendor Solutions in Supercritical Fluid Chromatography now Available

Wish you were here? Promote your products to over 30,000 buyers...

Agilent Technologies Inc have announced it has acquired the assets of Aurora SFC Systems, Inc, a leading provider of supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) products for laboratory research and analysis. The acquisition includes the Aurora SFC Systems product line as well as intellectual property. Financial details were not disclosed. Aurora SFC Systems has been a partner to Agilent for the past two years. Aurora’s Fusion A5 platform is embedded into Agilent’s SFC and Hybrid SFC/UHPLC systems, and is also sold as part of an upgrade option to Agilent’s 1100, 1200 and 1260 Series LC systems. Acquiring the Aurora SFC assets now enables Agilent to offer these products as fully integrated, single-vendor SFC solutions. Supercritical fluid chromatography is a normal phase technique that provides different selectivity compared to reversed phase UHPLC separation. SFC is used for a broad range of applications, including separation of chiral compounds, detection of impurities in pharmaceutical samples, determination of additives and migration products in consumer goods and food packaging or in ASTM methods such as D5186 for the determination of aromatic content in fuels. SFC represents a generic, cost-effective alternative to HPLC, providing results faster and with superior resolution. SFC is also known as a green technique that minimises the consumption of organic solvents and avoids generating large amounts of toxic waste.
