Laboratory Products 75 Launch of 12 New Products for the Life-Sciences

Grant Instruments a world-renowned supplier of scientific and life sciences products, has launched 12 new innovative life-science products to complement its existing Grant-bio range.

The new range of laboratory equipment, designed for sample preparation and molecular diagnostics, offer multi-functionality, ease of use, reliability, low energy consumption and excellent value for money.

The Grant-bio centrifuge collection is expanded with the addition of three new bench-top models: a large refrigerated centrifuge capable of controlling temperature between -10°C to 25°C, the LMC-4200R, a small vortex mixer/centrifuge with maximum speed of 6000rpm, the PCV-6000 and a high-speed mini centrifuge, with maximum speed of 14,500rpm, the Microspin 12.

Brand new to the range is a compact aspirator with a 1L trap flask, the FTA-1. The FTA-1 operates independently from an in-line lab vacuum

supply, making it an ideal personal tool for DNA/RNA purification and precipitation techniques.

For those looking for dry block heating systems, Grant has extended its product range by introducing three new dry block heaters: the DB-10C for cuvettes, the DB-4S for 0.2ml tubes and strips, and the PCH-3 for 2ml tubes. The PCH-3 offers excellent temperature stability and control in the range of 30°C below ambient to 100°C.

Other new introductions include a battery operated densitometer for cell suspension turbidity measurements, the DEN-1B, an orbital shaker-incubator ES-80 for mixing and incubation of samples, a mini vertical rotator, the PTR-25, an adjustable angle and speed platform rocker, the PMR-100 and a new PCR UV cabinet, the UVT-B-AR.

The Grant-bio series of products can be purchased worldwide through the extensive network of Grant appointed scientific product distributors. A full range of accessories is available, making the Grant-bio product range one of the most comprehensive on the market for sample preparation and treatment.

Grant has been designing, manufacturing and distributing scientific products for 60 years and has established a worldwide reputation for high quality, reliable and robust equipment designed to satisfy the most demanding applications for research in life sciences, chemical and general laboratories.

New Dispensers Reach Nanolitre Levels

In response to increased assay miniaturisation and low-volume dispensing applications, BioTek announces new lower limits for their microplate-based instruments with installed peristaltic pumps.

BioTek’s EL406™ Microplate Washer Dispensers and MultiFlo™ Microplate Dispensers are capable of dispensing down to 500nL via their respective peri-pump dispensing modes.

The EL406 combines fast, efficient microplate washing with peristaltic and syringe pump dispensing for 96- to 1536-well microplates, and also automates magnetic bead-based sample processing.

The versatile MultiFlo offers unique parallel dispense technology, dispensing up to four reagents in one compact unit for increased lab efficiency and reduced overall instrument costs.

The modular system can include peristaltic pump dispensing for low prime volumes and backflush features, and microprocessor-controlled syringe dispensing for fast and precise dispensing protocols.

Both the EL406 and MultiFlo are compatible with BioTek's BioStack™ Microplate Stacker and third party automation for unattended operation and are controlled via the integrated keypad interface or LHC software.

Tecan and JPT Peptide Technologies GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Biontech AG, have announced a collaborative agreement between the two specialist companies. Within the scope of the agreement, the parties agree to co-promote JPT’s wide range of catalogue peptide arrays and profiling capabilities alongside Tecan’s portfolio of leading microarray handling devices.

“We are very glad to have reached an agreement with JPT which presents enormous advantages for both companies, and also for our customers,” stated Siegfried Sasshofer, Director of Marketing Detection at Tecan Austria GmbH.

“Providing a high level of data quality and consistency is a burning need in microarray research. JPT is clearly the market leader in the growing field of peptide microarrays and their use for seromarker discovery, immune monitoring and enzyme profiling. Combining JPT peptide microarrays with our Tecan HS 4800™ Pro and HS 400™ Pro hybridisation stations for automated microarray processing will provide our customers with a new level of process standardisation to maximise the value of their research.”

“Over the past decade Tecan’s instruments have been critical for JPT to develop our PepStar™ peptide array technology into a robust and reliable platform. As a consequence, it is a pleasure to team up with Tecan and to fully reap the benefits of JPT’s peptide arrays with Tecan’s devices for serological and enzymatic assays,” said Holger Wenschuh, CEO of JPT.
