Distinguished Young Rheologist Award Announced By TA Instruments TA Instruments has presented the Distinguished Young Rheologist Award to two scientists: Dr Anson W. K. Ma, of the University of Connecticut, and Dr Ali Mohraz, of the University of California, Irvine.
The Award cited Dr Ma’s current work on interfacial rheology of nanoparticle-laden interfaces for stabilising emulsions, and flow dynamics of nanoparticles in simulated blood flows for cancer treatment. Professor Ma is also a recent recipient of an NSF EAGER award, given for those projects that explore potentially transformative ideas or approaches.
Dr Mohraz was recognised for his outstanding contributions regarding the rheology of colloidal dispersions, including the flow behavior of anisometric particles, the non-linear rheology of colloidal gels, and the structure and dynamics of polymer/colloid gels.

The Distinguished Young Rheologist Award recognises young faculty members that show exceptional promise in the field of
rheology and is designed to accelerate their research through equipment grants.
Recipients are nominated by a group of the most established and respected academic researchers in the field. “The Distinguished Young Rheologist award program has been a success in support of our vision to maintain our leading market position through strong partnerships with the academic community," commented Terry Kelly, President of TA Instruments.
"TA recognises academia as a source of product innovation and research into new materials and applications that continue to grow the rheometer market. We have had strong commitment to the academic segment for many years through our Academic Matching Grant program."
TA Instruments congratulates Dr Ma and Dr Mohraz on this award and wishes both long and successful careers.

The organisers of WWEM 2012, the Water Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring event, have announced that visitor numbers were up by 22% in comparison with 2010.
On behalf of the organisers, Marcus Pattison expressed his delight with this success, adding: “We are extremely pleased with the number of people that took advantage of everything that WWEM 2012 had to offer – visitors came from over 68 different countries and it is very satisfying to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback from both visitors and exhibitors.”
WWEM 2012 took place on the 7th and 8th November at the Telford International Centre and provided attendees with a wide choice of activities including a Process Monitoring Conference and a Laboratory Analysis Conference (both CPD approved), a ‘Meet the (international) Buyer’ event, a meeting on water sector innovation, over 80 Workshops, free training courses on gas detection and safety, and an exhibition featuring over 130 stands representing more than 250 of the world’s leading providers of test and monitoring equipment and related services.
As a result of the wealth of information available, many visitors found it necessary to attend both days of the event.

Warsaw - Where Business Meets Science at The 2013 Eurolab Fair and Crimelab Fair
The 15th International Trade Fair of Analytical, Measurement and Control Technology EuroLab and the 2nd International Forensic Technology Fair CrimeLab will be held on 10-12 April 2013 at the MT Polska Trade Fair and Congress Centre in Warsaw.
EuroLab is the biggest event of its kind in Poland. Both events comprise a unique interface between business and the scientific community and an opportunity to establish fruitful business relationships.
In Poland, there are more than 40 international research and development centres in operation, and chemical technologies is one area of specialisation in which Polish scientists are achieving success on a global scale. At the EuroLab Fair, research and development institutes, universities and certifying institutes will be presenting their latest technological solutions in the four sectors:
chemical analysis, life science, biotechnology, and metrology.
The high quality of the fairs is guaranteed by the Programming Board consisting of outstanding scientists and specialists in charge of key research and development institutes in Poland.
The prestige of the 2013 EuroLab Fair will be further enhanced by the the Honorary Patronage of Stefan Niesiołowski, Chairman of the Parliamentary National Defence Commission, Prof. Barbara Kudrycka, Minister of Science and Higher Education, Czesław Mroczek, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence, and Professor Michał Kleiber, President of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
