July 2018 Lisgoold Teen Continues to Aim High

by SEAMUS WHELEHAN

When it comes to Ham- mer and Discus throwing Lisgoold teen, Leah Park- er, doesn’t have any plans of landing any time soon. The 13 year old has racked up a number of championship titles

this

year for Midleton AC and St Aloysius Carrigtwohill, where she attends Second- ary School.

Last week the young

student won Silver in the under 15 Hammer and Discuss at the All Irelands. The East Cork teenag-

er threw a lifetime best of 43.80 meters in the Ham- mer and a personal best throw of 30.46 meters in the Discus. Earlier this year the Lis-

goold youth was placed in poll position at the Mun- ster Hammer and Discus Championship, claiming

Gold in the under 15 cat- egory in both. She also claimed Silver

for her school in the Mun- ster Indoor Minor Shot-

Putt.

In the Outdoor Schools Championships Leah went up a year to Junior level, claiming Gold in South

Munster schools Discus. The young Lisgoold

woman also claimed Gold in the Junior Discus and Silver in the Junior Ham-

mer for Munster in the overall competition. Despite

the methods

for throwing Discus and Hammer, Leah has fin-

ished 5th the

All-

Junior finals, and will com- pete at Junior level again next year.
