Ireland’s culture, music
and language will be celebrat- ed in a special hidden area in the woods this upcoming Electric Picnic 2018 in Strad- bally, Co. Laois, 31 August - 2 September, as part of Bliain na Gaeilge. In an area called An Chollchoill (The Hazel Wood) there will be a stage, bar and a bonfire, all located in the woods on the edge of the festival’s main area. Bliain na Gaeilge are delighted to be working with Festival Repub- lic to organise this area and to increase the Irish language presence at the biggest music festival in Ireland. There will be a blend of
traditional and contempo- rary Irish music on the stage in The Hazel Wood from

amongst them. Síomha Ní Ruairc, Com-

There will be service provid- ed through Irish at the café and bar, as well as bilingual signposting in this beautifully decorated and atmospheric part of the woods. REIC poets and comedic

hordaitheoir Bhliain na Gaeilge; “We are really look- ing forward to this opportuni- ty Electric Picnic have given us to strengthen presence of the Irish language at Ireland’s biggest music and arts festival as part of Bliain na Gaeilge. We are excited to announce the musicians and entertain- ers lined up for An Chollcho- ill, we are sure that the Irish speaking community and all festival-goers will really en- joy what we have in store for them. The stage will be situ- ated in a beautiful area of the festival grounds, which will provide an enchanting atmos- phere, which is fitting as space in which we can showcase our
magical culture through mu- sic, dance, storytelling and spoken word over two nights at the festival.” Sorcha O’Reilly, Festival
Republic; “As we are celebrat- ing Bliain na Gaeilge 2018, we felt it important that there should be an emphasis on the Irish language at the festival this year. Electric Picnic is an arts and culture festival, and An Chollchoill, [The Hazel Wood] will provided a plat- form on which we can cel- ebrate our beautiful culture and heritage. This area will provide an additional space for the Irish speaking commu- nity, but all will be welcome - we hope to inspire people of all backgrounds to take part in the music and atmosphere
created in this enchanting space.”
As well as this stage and
entertainment area, there will be an official Gaeltacht camp- ing area founded by Bliain na Gaeilge and Festival Republic on the grounds of the festival. This camping area will cater for over 200 people, in which Irish will be the spoken lan- guage between its residents. Tickets
for Electric Pic-
nic have sold out, but those who already have tickets will be able to stay in ‘An Ghael- tacht’, this newly designated camping area for Irish speak- ers. Due to a limited number of spaces, prior registration will be required at www.elec-
tricpicnic.ie. Further Information:
