A special smile, a special face, and in our hearts a special place. Our memories we keep one by one, things you said and songs you sung.

They bring a smile, sometimes a tear, but always a wish that you were here. No words can tell, no tears express, the love, the loss the emptiness. You are not just a memory, or part of the past,

you are ours to remember, as long as life lasts.

Will those who think of her today, a little prayer to Jesus say. 2nd Anniversary

pected death on January 22nd was received with shock and sadness throughout East Cork. Sincere sympathy is extended to his son William, William’s wife Eimear,

their children Kate,

Liam and Eabha, his brother Gerard, Sister Margaret and the extended families. Michael was predeceased by his beloved Wife Maureen and brother Ray- mond. Maureen’s death in 1996 at

an early age was a tremendous loss.

Coming to terms with

this was borne with great cour- age and the support of his son William was of enormous ben- efit. Around this time, William’s supporting role was to take on a new significance when he mar- ried Eimear. Though the family dynamic had changed especially for Michael, he found his new role helped and the arrival of his beloved grandchildren Kate, Liam and Eabha was an im- mense source of pride and joy. Indeed William, Eimear and

the children complimented Mi- chael’s years from then on in a truly wonderful way. Many tributes to Mick, as he

was affectionately known, have been paid since his unexpected death. His interests were wide and varied. On sporting mat- ters, Cork Hurling and the lo- cal GAA scene, particularly his club Dungourney had pride of place. In earlier years his inter- est extended to Greyhound rac- ing and surely the highlight for him was when his dog “Winter Rations” won at Cork track in 1972.

His working life of over 50

years involved him on many landmark places and buildings around Cork. First and foremost he was a family man and Wil- liams’s reflection of his Dad’s life at the funeral Mass was es- pecially poignant and so totally accurate that the congregation on that occasion greeted it with sustained applause in apprecia- tion. It recounted the aspects of his Dad’s early years and traits he brought with him to his own life showed the strong values he learned at home in Ballydonagh

Beg. Williams recounting of Mick’s

interests in sporting matters are particularly interesting bringing nods of agreement at the funer- al, especially when he said : “He was a Dungourney man

through and through, he loved his parish, his Hurling Club and he absolutely loved Cork Hurl- ing. His Famous saying was – I was born a Dungourney Man and I’ll die a Dungourney Man. The stories, oh the stories of the local derbies with Castlemartyr, and how you should be twice as good to beat them, as they were so cute. He had lifelong friends from Castlemartyr but when a hurling match came along, the friendship would be put on ice for a week or so.” His love

for the club and

the esteem and high regard for Mick was acknowledged by the attendance of so many club players – past and present, men- tors and club officers at the re- moval and the funeral. He was vice president at the time of his passing and a vote of sympathy to the family was passed at the executive meeting on the 29th

January. Club records show his in-

volvement in all aspects of its ac- tivities in the good times and the not so good times. His delight, pride and attendance to the celebrations which followed the various victories testified to his continuing support and interest, none more so than in 2015 wel- coming home the 2015 Munster Junior A Hurling Champions. As a link to the past one of his friends recalls Mick’s tion of

the famous Dungourney and Cork All Ireland medal holder Jamesy Kelleher. As a young boy Mick was on a visit to a family relative with his mother and en route happened to meet Jamesy near his residence in Ballard. To conclude there is no doubt

what Michael and Maureen be- gan when setting up home in Ballymacoola continues in the lives of William, Eimear and their children Kate, Liam and Eabha. Again sincere sympathy and condolences to Michael O’Riordan’s family. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam
