Senior Football League Div 4 – Aghada 2-5 v Grenagh 1-8; Grenagh 18/2/18 Our Senior footballers

travelled to Grenagh last Sunday afternoon hop- ing to make it 3 wins out of 3 in this year’s league. Things all went accord- ing to that plan in the 1st half with 2 goals inside the opening 7 minutes, one from Ronan Ken-

Aghada GAA from

O’Neill which

gave Aghada a 5 point lead. Points from O’Neill, Cian Fleming and Josh O’Shea gave Aghada a halftime total of 2-5. The home side had 5 points of their own, 3 from play and 2 frees. So a 6 point lead and things were looking good for Agha- da who had played well in the 1st

period, and if

anything, should have been further ahead as they spurned two other excellent goal chances

different

and kicked a number of wides. The half

second

turned out to be a story however.

Grenagh dropped an ex- tra man back and Agha- da would not score for the entire half. Crucially as well, Grenagh scored a goal of their own within 5 minutes of the restart and it

gave Slowly but

confidence to go on and dominate

them the half.

surely they lead.

Thanks to good defend- ing in the main from Jake

and Kalen O’Donoghue, it was still a 3 point game with 10 to play. Howev- er 2 points in a minute left

the bare minimum

in it with just 5 minutes to play. It was a holding on exercise for Aghada at this point, but the equal- iser eventually came in the 61st

minute. Not long

after, the final whistle sounded and both teams shared the spoils. So 5 points out of a possible 6, still a good return as we switch over to hurling for the next couple of weeks. Team and scorers – Andy O’Donoghue, Tim Hartnett, Shane Wall, David Rice, Kalen

Hard Luck to Our Harty Hurlers It wasn’t to be for Mid-

leton CBS and our Harty Cup hurlers Aaron Walsh Barry, Shane O’Hanlon, Kiitan Oke and Liam Gosnell in last Saturday’s final in Mallow. A tough game

against Ardscoil

Rís ended on a scoreline of 3-18 to 2-10. Aaron Walsh Barry lined out at wing-back wearing no. 6 and CBS co-captain, Liam Gosnell, started at no.12. Despite this defeat, Midleton progress to the Croke Cup quarter-final in March. Well done to the four lads on their efforts with their school this year. Special praise also has to go to Liam Gosnell who was overall top scorer in the final, a phenomenal achievement

regardless

of the outcome. Liam was credited with 2-7 of CBS’

2-10. We look forward to following these fine hurl- ers in the Croke Cup and with the club this year.

in Carrig on February 9th Carrig 1-4 Fr. O’Neills

1-8 Carrig began our jun-

ior football league cam- paign with a close defeat against Fr. O’Neills under lights last Friday week. O’Neill’s scored 1-2 in the last five minutes to come away with the win. Carrig began the first

half brightly with Pat O’Sullivan scoring two points from centre-for- ward inside the first 3 minutes. Fr. O’Neills rat- tled over the next points before

four Brendan

Horgan responded just before the half. O’Neills struck again on half-time to go in ahead, 0-5 to 0-3. Carrig made a raft

of changes at half time and again had the better

of the first 15 minutes. Brendan Horgan put over a free and comfortably buried a penalty that was won by Liam O’Sullivan after 42 minutes. That goal put Carrig ahead 1-4 to 0-5 but O’Neills scored 1-3 unanswered at
