Autoelectro Introduces New Surcharge Plan
Autoelectro has unveiled
a new surcharge strategy which includes the availa- bility of many part num- bers surcharge-free. From the
1st March,
more than 2,000 referenc- es will have their surcharge charges cut, while the 10 bestselling and over half of the top 100 part numbers will become surcharge-free. The company says the landmark announcement is a result of more than 12 months development
with
the aim of presenting its customers with an even more cost-effective solution for rotating electrics. In November, the com-
pany launched a short surcharge-free
range of non-exchange (NEX) units
to complement its full re- manufacturing programme of more than 4,000 indi- vidual references. At
the beginning of
April, Autoelectro says it will also be introducing a new tool designed to give full surcharge transparency and assist in securing max- imum profits from stock on the shelf.
Motor Insurance Fraud Remains A Major Problem
Latest figures re-
leased by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ire- land (MIBI) show that claims caused by unin- sured and untraced ve- hicles remain worrying- ly high. A total of 2,758 claims were received by the MIBI in 2017 just under the 2,802 claims made in 2016. As may be expected
the largest number of claims came from Dub- lin with 1,140 claims accounting for 41% of the total. Limerick and Cork also experienced a high level of claims.
However, when taken on a per capita basis, counties such as Ca- van and Longford were found to be claim hot- spots. The MIBI is a not
for profit organisation which was established to compensate victims of road traffic acci- dents caused by unin- sured and unidentified vehicles. Speaking about the figures, Da- vid Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of the MIBI said, “In 2016 we wit- nessed a significant step up in the number
of claims the MIBI re- ceives and that
level
was sustained in 2017. When you compare the current level of claims to
the approximately
2,400 to 2,500 claims range we experienced in the years up to and including 2015, you can see there has been a marked increase.” David added, “There
are a number of factors behind this increase, in- cluding the number of uninsured drivers op- erating on Irish roads. As the MIBI outlined in late 2016, at
time there were over 151,000 uninsured pri- vate vehicles in the Re- public of Ireland. We are continuing to work with the Gardaí,
the
State and the rest of the motor insurance in- dustry to bring forward measures that will help combat this problem.”
The MIBI has also
outlined its determina- tion to tackle fraudu- lent claims. It estimates 1 in 8 of all claims re- ceived are suspicious. It is taking steps to make it much more difficult for claims of this type to succeed.
