Concerns Raised Over slow Progress on Midleton Flood Relief

by SEAMUS WHELEHAN

Cork County Council

Executive felt the full wrath of Councillor Noel Collins this week regarding the slow progress of ongoing flood prevention works in Midle- ton.

Kevin Morey,

Acting County Engineer, had been

giving Southern Division Councillors an update on six proposed schemes which included the Midleton and Glashaboy (Sallybrook/Gl- anmire) Flood Relief pro- grammes. Mr Morey said co-op-

eration was ongoing with a number of different or- ganisations, and that detail design was underway with

some schemes, while site

surveys and investigations were on-going with others. Many Councillors

claimed that the Office of Public Works led projects across the region were like “a Curates Egg, good in spots, improving a small bit.”

However, when it came

to details on the Midleton scheme an animated Cllr Collins objected strongly to the delays. In Midleton, Mr Morey said, the OPW should have a number of options avail- able to consider by March 2019. The scheme is then expected to progress to de- tailed design stage, tender and construction by 2021. Continued on page 2
