More Than 1 in 10 Cork Commercial Properties Vacant - Buckley
Sinn Féin Cork East
TD Pat Buckley has crit- icised the government for their failure to invest East Cork
in and called for
action in conjunction with the IDA. He was respond- ing to the GeoDirectory Commercial Vacancy Re- port Q4 2017 which found Cork had a commercial vacancy rate
of 11.8%
with nearly three quarters vacant for 3 years or more. Deputy Buckley said; “This report is a com- indictment
plete of the
government and the IDA in terms of their willing- ness or capacity to attract and support business Cork.
in In Youghal in my own
constituency nearly 1 in 5 commercial
sites are
vacant. There are many factors impacting this but given some moderate im- provements in the econo- my over recent years this is unacceptable and needs to be tackled. The
government are
failing rural Ireland. It is clear that
the people of
East Cork are not on their agenda. There is a need to carry
out a full survey of these properties and develop a plan for putting them into use as commercial busi- nesses or repurpose them for social or community enterprises or even hous- ing.”
