Midleton No Match For Ard Scoil Ris In Harty Cup Final
Midleton CBS 2-10 Ard Scoil Ris 3-18
Impressive Ard Scoil Ris win another Harty Cup title for Limerick
Perhaps it was the
weight of expectation but Midleton CBS simply did not turn up in Mallow last Saturday afternoon. An assured and confident Ard Scoil Ris went about their business and took control right from the off. In contrast
Midleton
seemed at sixes and sev- ens and there was no composure in their play and as a result they made life easy for their oppo- nents, who it must be said took full advantage. When Midleton look back on this display they will know that they were not at the races and too many of their big guns failed to fire despite Joe Stack getting the opening point. Ard Scoil Ris on the
other hand came out with all guns blazing as Adrian Moriarty got their open- er, while Paul O’Brien put them in front with a 3rd
minute free. From there to the finish Ard
Scoil took over with the outstanding Diarmuid Ryan careering through before setting up full for- ward Rian Considine for the opening goal. Further points from O’Brien from a 65, Ryan and David Woulfe
gave the Lim-
erick school leading by 1-5 to 0-3 at the end of the opening quarter with Liam Gosnell getting the two points for Midleton. Cathal Hickey had the second score from play for Midleton, but once again it was Ard Scoil Ris who moved further in front with Cathal O’Neill swerving through be- fore shooting to the net. Free-taker Paul O’Brien pointed twice with just two in reply from Mid- dleton’s best player Liam Gosnell as Ard Scoil Ris went to the break leading by 2-7 to 0-6.
sion, but Midleton looked all at
Perhaps it was the occa- sea in the open-
ing half and while they emerged with determina- tion on the resumption, three early wides did not help their cause. Instead
Cathal O’Neill had two early second half points to keep Midleton at bay and then Diarmuid Ryan hit 1-1 to put the final be- yond doubt. Ryan’s goal came as the final entered the final quarter. That had Ard Scoil Ris 3-11 to 0-7 ahead. Midleton did respond their
and best player
Liam Gosnell had two goals in quick succes- sion. Conor Bourke, Rian Considine and Paul O’Brien all hit back with points and even though Cillian O’Reilly was sent off for a second yellow card late-on, there was no doubting the winners. Ja- son Gillane in the Ard Scoil goal produced two fine late saves to ensure a Munster Post Primary Schools Senior A Hurling Championship title for Limerick. The only consolation for Midle- ton is that they are still involved in the All-Ire- land series and they will hope to do much better next time out. Harty champions in 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2016, this latest Lim- erick title success was captained by Adare’s Ronan Connolly. Watched by 2989, this was a most polished
final display from Ard Scoil Ris who were on top from start to finish as Midleton failed to turn up on the day. Ard Scoil will now make a bold bid for All Ireland honours and Midleton will be hoping for another shot at
them as on Saturday
last very few of the Mid- leton side played up to form. It would be wrong not to mention all the hard work put in by the Midleton team, but on Saturday last things just did not go for them. Per- haps they will have better luck next time.
