Gillian and Aisling were then joined by Muireann Kennedy for the ballad singing where they wowed the crowd with a contem- porary Green Day hit and an Irish classic by the O Meara brothers. The con- trasting nature of the songs were well received by the audience who greeted the performance with raptur- ous applause. Gillian and Muireann also partook in the solo singing. Glanmire’s Will Daly,

was clear that Glanmire had put in a lot of practice and showed off their moves in a well drilled coordinated routine. Will, Karen, Cathal,

Cathal Cashman, Seamus Reid, Declan O Hara, Michael Buckley and Ka- ren Cashman also showed their comical side through their hilarious GAA paro- dy sketch. The side splint- ing sketch brought many laughs to the audience that gathered in Knockraha. Ultimately the sketch won best comedy on the night and the disco/contempo- rary dance also proving

Also during the week members,

Aisling

Walsh, Dee Walsh and Amy Turpin collaborated with the Irish Country- woman Association (ICA) in their bid to secure their place for the Cork selection of the Rose of Tralee. The Rose festival takes place in August and is celebrating it’s 59th

year in 2018. It is a

celebration of young wom- an across the world with Irish heritage. The festival highlight is the crowning of the woman of the Rose of Tralee title for the forth- coming year. The ICA and Macra na

Feirme have many shared values and principals within the realms of rural Ireland so when members of the ICA guild asked for sup- port, Glanmire members were happy to assist. Glan- mire Macra na Feirme are always happy to help our

local community and en- gage with them where pos- sible. Fortunately for Glan- mire, Amy Turpin won the ICA selection and will go forward to the Cork round. Well done Amy! Elsewhere after claim-

ing the Seandun Mr Per- sonality Title, Declan O Hara headed to Clonakilty for a chance for the Cork Crown. The Cork round is there for participants to

Unfor- tunately Declan didn’t win on the night but said “it was a good experience and I am looking forward to the Na- tional final” and as a good Kerry man he left beautiful West Cork saying “Ciarrai Abu”. Best of luck to De- clan as the Seandun cham- pion in April!

Urgent Action Required As Loan Sell-Offs By Pillar Banks Ramp Up

ICSA rural development

chairman Seamus Sher- lock has said he is appalled at the decision by Perma- nent TSB to place €4.5bn of its loans on the market. Commenting on the move Mr Sherlock said, “Selling off these loans at a fraction of their value means the vultures will

be circling

around in no time, looking to make big money at the expense of hard pressed families.” “The volume

of the

loans being off-loaded is extremely alarming. The outlook for those who find themselves in the position of having their loans sold off can only be described as grim. Any protection they had will be grossly un- dermined by being forced to deal with new loan mas- ters whose only interest is to profit from them.” Continuing Mr Sher-

lock said, “There is also a real danger of other banks following suit. I would implore upon any of the other banks who may be thinking of doing the same to reconsider. We cannot allow countless homes and family farms to be put up for grabs in a free for all. Negotiating any reasona- ble solution with private equity firms is notorious- ly difficult when all they are interested in are quick sales with people who find themselves in precarious situations.” “ICSA has been assist-

ing farming families whose loans have been sold on, but the numbers look like- ly to skyrocket unless we can call time on throwing people under the bus like this. I am calling on Min- ister Paschal Donohue to intervene as a matter of urgency.”
