Castlemartyr GAA Notes
Football Results Castlemartyr got the 2018 football league program off to a start this Sunday by hosting St. Catherine’s in Castle- martyr. Fielding a young team, the reds started well and continued to dominate the first half with Mike Cosgrave im- pressive in midfield and Mike Kelly keeping the scoreboard busy from play and placed balls.
Castlemartyr led by 0-9 to 0-1 at half time but could have had a few more scores at the turn. The second half start-
ed with a flurry and both teams forced into chang- es due to black cards and then a red card for a Catherine’s man handed the initiative to the reds with Eoin Cash- man, Declan Kelly and Eddie Clifford pointing in the
aftermath, the latter making up for a
few wayward shots in the first half on his re- turn to the team. Bar- ra O’Tuama and Liam Martin started to have a big say on proceedings at
this stage and both
raised the green flag as the match was effective- ly ended as a contest and although
Catherine’s
pushed on later, the de- fense stood tall with Jack Knowles and James Bar- ry stout throughout the 60 minutes. In the end,
Castlemartyr ran out comfortable winners on a score line of 3-16 to 0-6. Mike Kelly was best on the day for the reds and a constant thorn in the sides to Catherine’s defense. Team: C White, J Bar-
ry, E Ronayne, J Know- les, A McAuliffe, R O’Donovan, N O’Dono- van, M Cosgrave (0-1), C Martin, E. Cashman (0-2), L Martin(1-1), M Kelly (0-9), E Clifford (0-1), B O’Tuama (1-0), D Kelly(1-2). Subs used, D Lawton, S Hennessey.

O’Neill,
Football Manager We played our first football league game of
the year on Friday night and even though con- ditions were tough we were able to come out with a comfortable win in the end. We had our share of luck with a cou- ple of goals in the first half but it was no more than we deserved. We
Dungourney GAA were
at solid throughout the back with Niall
Motherway and Andy Cronin. Cormac Griff- en in his first game with Junior team didn’t look out of place either. We were always dangerous in attack with Shane and Sean Hegarty pulling
the strings. The most impressive part was our attitude and work rate. Final score 4-11 to 1-11. Team – Kieran
Geaney, Andy Cronin, Finbarr O’Connell, Kevin Rohan, Ni- all Motherway, Dan McGrath, Bill Ahern, Colin Fitzpatrick, Sean Hegarty, Shane Hegar- ty, Brian Aherne, James McCarthy, Shane Casey,
Eochaill Óg
Eochaill Óg back to business! It’s back to business
for Eochaill Óg as teams get back to training after the Winter break. New players are welcomed, management teams get bedded in – many of whom have moved up a year with their
team
and the first few chal- lenge matches are being played. Here’s news from some of the teams:
Under 6’s We have three Satur-
day mornings under our belt now, with our young players getting settled into
our training rou-
tines. Most of our play- ers are in either Junior or Senior Infants in school so are experiencing their first forays into team sport. So far we’ve con- centrated on hurling, ba- sics that we concentrate
on are getting the hurley grip/ hold correct, the ready position and the swing. The most impor- tant thing is that it is fun for the boys and girls and it’s a great opportunity for them to make new friends in a positive en- couraging environment. New players always wel- come born 2012 (2013 if started school). We train at 11.30 every Saturday morning in the GAA Hall.
Under 7’s Our first meet up
was at the Fun Run on Claycastle beach which was a fantastic way for the players to meet up and ease back to train- ing. Since then at our two sessions we’ve been concentrating on specif- ic Gaelic football skills, in particular kicking the ball from the hand and the hand pass. It is bril- liant to see how quickly the group are picking up
these important skills of the game. They’re a very enthusiastic bunch and the trainers are excited for their development! New boys and girls wel- come (born 2011), every Saturday morning at 10.30- 11.30 in the GAA Hall.
Under 9’s On Sunday 11th played
ruary we
