ESSMA at Stadia & Arena
ESSMA members from around Europe contributed their front-line knowledge of stadium operations at Stadia and Arena 2013, with a number of members involved as panellists in the conference sessions.
ESSMA highlighted fi ve main reasons as to why this year’s Stadia & Arena event was such a successful conference:
1. The strengthening of relationships with ESSMA members
2. Seminars with interesting topics & the involvement of various ESSMA members
3. The furthering of discussions with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), with agreement reached for a joint event at next year’s Stadia & Arena conference
4. Important insights into Turkish stadium development
5. Interaction with potential new ESSMA members
Signifi cantly, the ESSMA members that attended Stadia & Arena 2013 and completed the post-event survey, confi rmed 100% that they would all be attending Stadia & Arena 2014; true testament of the huge success of this year’s event.

featured Chris Bigelow, President, The Bigelow Companies; Craig McLellan, Partner, Gardiner & Theobald LLP; Scott Meyers, VP Sales & Marketing, ISS 24/7; Martin Murphy, Stadium Director, Aviva Stadium; and Tobias Wachter, Stadium Development & Consulting, Arena One GmbH.
Subsequent to the coffee break and networking sponsored by SMG, the two tracks once again split off, with a Stadia Design, Build & Operations session entitled ‘Safety & Security Initiatives in Turkey’, which involved panellists Mehmet Gulez, e-ticketing Project Coordinator, Turkish Football Federation; Ozgur Gundogan, Head of Sales, Turk
Agusti Benedito, FC Barcelona candidate, with Alan Levett
The TFF is developing an e-ticketing system
Telecom Arena/Galatasaray SK; and Cem Orcun, Deputy Chairman, Federation of Private Security Associations. While the Stadia Technology, Events & Revenue-Generation track dealt with ‘Strategies to unlock your venue’s revenue’ with Michael Brill, Regional Vice President, SMG Europe; Tom Jones, Principal, Populous; Ulrich Lacher, Director, REPUCOM; Bill Mannarelli, Lead Vice President, ICON Venue Group; Patrik Meyer, Managing Director, Stadion Frankfurt Management; and Professor David Russell, Chairman, The Russell Partnership.
