Vancouver’s BC Place relaunched in 2012 after a refurbishment to allow it to host two sports. The relaunch plan included holding on to fl at fl oor events it had previously held, such as the Boat Show. It has successfully done this by using temporary fl ooring from Terraplas. “BC Place is a truly multipurpose stadium venue, hosting events on a year-round calendar,” explains Duncan Blomfi eld, Marketing and Communications.

Potential for stadium events
University campuses are making more use of their athletic facilities for ceremonies. In May, for the fi rst time in more than 40 years, graduating University of Arizona Wildcats gathered at Arizona Stadium to celebrate their
transition from students to alumni. The university is planning to use the stadium for commencement, adding food trucks in the student staging area and pre-show entertainment for guests, including a photo presentation of graduating students on the stadium’s big screen.
A big requirement for temporary fl ooring comes from the concert tours that are more and more frequently stopping off at stadiums thanks to the work of promoters such as AEG Live and Live Nation. Signature has noted a busy concert season in 2013: “We recently provided the national stadiums of Sweden, Qatar, Indonesia, and Bahamas with turf protection systems,” says Frew. “We also just fi nished a busy month of June at Stade de France where ArmorDeck was chosen to protect the turf for four consecutive weekend concerts which featured Rihanna, Depeche Mode, Muse, and Bruce Springsteen.
