Builders Merchants report growth and cautious optimism post Br exit


Handbook launched members, achieved sales growth above 5% in the final


Data collected by the BMF has found that builders’ mer chants had a strong end to 2016 and anticipate increased gr owth this year,, despite secr, despite sector concerns about the impact of Brexit. The majority of the BMF’’sof the BMF’s


quarter of 2016 compar ed the same period in 2015, generating revenues of £13bn. In total, 82% of builders’ merchants reported an increase in sales, with growth strongest among roofing and timber merchants.


Builders mer chants ar e now calling on the Prime Minister to secur e a new customs agr eement based on low or zer o tarif fs. Otherwise, curr ent trading benefits such as no need to pay duties at bor ders, provide rules of origin declarations, or declareVAT prior to sale, ar e at risk post Br exit.
