All bathtubs, basins, toilets and showers require water traps to prevent the escape of sewer air from discharge systems. How- ever, these oftr,, these often take up a lot more space than necessary under bathroom fixtures. So BMJ asked Tim Wootton, technical ser- vices manager at Wavin what merchants should be aware of.

Unlike a traditional trap, HepvO doesn’t rely on
water to create a seal between the sewer and the build- ing above. Instead, it uses a self-sealing, elastomeric membrane which performs exactly the same function as a water trap, without compromising space. •
HepvO does not feature a U-bend, where water would usually gather in traditional traps, reducing the risk of blockages as the properties of the silicone mem- brane mean that even the most stubborn materials do not stick to it and cause build up. •

of evaporation and the system’s performance is not compromised by a lack of use. HepvO is, therefore, well suited to use in situations of infrequent use, like holiday lets, guest bathrooms and park homes. Similarly, HepvO performs successfully in motor homes, other moving vehicles, or even boats where traditional water traps can lose their seal through movement and vibration.
