HomeXperts Andrew Burden

Andrew worked for Virgin Media for 12 years, starting as a sales executive and eventually becoming store manager. He is now a HomeXperts franchisee in his home territory of Kidderminster.

Why did franchising with HomeXperts appeal after redundancy? At the time I was made redundant I was looking for a career change; therefore, it really gave me the chance to consider what

I actually wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to run my own business and the help and support offered by franchisors such as HomeXperts meant that I could finally earn money for myself without having to endure a slow business startup.

Why HomeXperts and why this sector? I’d always wanted to be an estate agent, so when I got the opportunity, I searched for a franchise that suited me. Their customer-centric core values coupled with the support given to franchisees via training and technology made me feel confident about starting up my own estate and lettings business.

How did you go about taking the plunge with franchising?

Redundancy was a blessing in disguise for me. It gave me an opportunity. I saw HomeXperts as an investment. I wasn’t going to waste the money that I’d been given, I really wanted to do something purposeful with it.

How did your former career experience help you? Being a store manager for seven years it allowed me to develop knowledge of how a business runs. I crafted business strategies

and financial plans, which have become crucial when going forward being in control of my own business.

“I can’t see myself leaving franchising, as the level of support I’ve received has made me feel confident about something that many see as a big risk”

What do you envisage for the future? I wish to develop the business and myself as a businessman. I can’t see myself leaving franchising, as the level of support I’ve received has made me feel confident about something that many see as a big risk. I’d love to consider expanding my territory in the future.

Any advice for potential franchisees? It all starts with the first enquiry. Don’t get stuck in a job you’re not entirely happy with. See redundancy as an opportunity to try something new!
