Inside Story

working my own hours, having a good work-life balance, reaping the rewards of working hard and calling the shots were all things that really spoke to me.

How did you hear about Express Business Group?

I went to a franchise exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham a couple of years ago, as I was interested in looking into franchises; I wanted to know what opportunities were available. Afterwards, I decided that I wanted to take that next step and work for myself. I did an internet search of UK franchises and I came across a cleaning company that looked great. When I went for an open day with them I realised that this wasn’t something I wanted to do forever. I then looked at another pickup and delivery company; the van looked brilliant but there were numerous extra costs and expensive hidden fees.

I actually came across Express through Facebook. I checked out the website and had a meeting with multi-master franchisor, Adam Murphy, in late April. I knew straight away that I wanted to go with Express. When funds became available in October, I signed.

Why did you choose to join Express? Rather than just running a business, Express feels like a family to me. It’s made up of a support team rather than bosses, and the competitive price made a huge

diff erence to my decision. I liked the way Express did business and the franchise model Express uses makes sense to me.

What service interested you the most? First, I looked at pest control and I’m still interested in starting this division later down the line.

I chose pickup and delivery as I

already had experience in the fi eld and I know the roads extremely well. I’m defi nitely an expert when it comes to navigating my way around!

“Finding out about how the business runs was really inspiring. I was really happy to see just how much of a family the whole team is”

How long have you been with Express? I’ve been with Express for four weeks now, and I’m starting to get the hang of it. Prospecting is a great tool to use for attracting business and I’m not scared of knocking on doors and getting out there approaching people.

Many years ago I used to work selling gourmet groceries from a van, and every day I would knock on the doors of locals

asking if they wanted any fresh produce. Not every person is going to say yes, but in one case a lady agreed on the 14th time of asking and she became a regular client.

How has your experience been so far? Brilliant! The training in Australia was fantastic. I got to see two of the Australian offi ces, and I met with international training support manager, Kym Krey, and international director, Rod Wakefi eld.

Meeting the whole team and fi nding out about how the business runs was really inspiring. I was really happy to see just how much of a family the whole team is. In the last month I’ve learnt how to run my own business, from invoicing to record keeping and quoting.

I especially enjoyed the personal selling basics workshop run by founder and international franchise director, Reece Arcon, in Warrington in October of this year, where I learnt skills on eff ective prospecting. It’s great getting together to discuss ideas and listen to the leaders in the business.
