SCHOOLGIRLS LEAGUE Fermoy 3 - 0 Youghal
United Sponsored by Apple-
green Cork Hill On Tuesday last the girls
made a trip to Fermoy to take on the Table toppers
on there own home turf. With a slightly depleted squad due to some injuries and Confirmation we knew this would be a hard task. However never ones to shy away from any game the girls lined up with Aoibhe Daly in goal with a back 4 of Lucy Nicholson, Ava Montgomery, Aoibhe O Flynn and Zuzannna. The four girls did a fantastic job catching the Fermoy girls off side in the opening half. Stepping up at
times and frustrating the very strong opposition at every chance. Our midfield of Emily,
Kellie, Ciara and our cap- tain Hannah worked hard all night
covering every
blade of grass to try and contain the ever pressing Fermoy attack. Up front we had Emma and Whitney who we knew would add extreme pace to our attack and help with a long ball game. The
game started
fast and furious with the Youghal girls struggling to contain the Fermoy attack. Aoibhe did a superb job in goal make a few very im- portant saves early on but it wasn’t long before Fermoy broke the deadlock and go 1 up. Regrouped we tried to change a few positions and put more pressure on the midfield. This worked well and the girls got a few chances but got caught out on the break to go 2 down. An uphill battle
faced us
now with half time fast ap- proaching. Halftime: 2-0 We made 2 changes at
Halftime bringing on Molly for Emma and our U12 call up Lorna for Lucy. Fired
the right
up after the team talk and ready to go out and win the second half the girls got off to a flying start. Molly sat between attack and midfield and did an outstanding job feeding ball after ball into Whitney. This was working a treat and nearly made the breakthrough on a couple of occasions but the Fer- moy keeper pulled off some fantastic saves. Our other sub Lorna filled in the right back position perfectly and for a girl of Lorna’s age to make the step up to U14 against a strong side like Fermoy and perform the way she did was huge eye opener for the coaches. Well done Lorna. Our third and final sub was Joanna who we welcomed back from a long lay off with a knee in- jury. Joanna filled in for Zu- zanna at her ease. It was like she was never away. Even though we put in a fantas- tic and very physical second half Fermoy got one more goal to finish off the game with 10mins left. We could ask no more of the girls as they tried hard to the final whistle to get the goal they very much deserved. Our player of the match
goes to Lorna a halftime sub who put in an outstand- ing performance. Well done Lorna.
Final score 3-0 to Fermoy CORK
SCHOOLBOYS LEAGUE U12 Youghal United 5 - 2 Fer-
moy Youghal U12s welcomed
Fermoy to Ardrath Park Sunday the 9th
of April.
Youghal started the game strongly with Bradley and James playing some lovely
passing movements. Brad- ley unleashed a powerful shot that outside
just scraped the of the post. Fer-
moy were on the defensive and had their goalkeeper to thank as he made fine saves from Conor, William, Bradley and James. In the eighth minute Bradley went on a lazy dribble and slotted the ball neatly in the corner of the net 1-nil to Youghal. Fermoy started to enjoy a bit more possession and on the 18th
minute broke and
their number 8 unleashed an unstoppable shot even our keeper Dylan could not get his hand to it 1-1 against the run of play. Fermoy were having their best spell in the game but our defence of Sean M Ciaran and Orin withstood everything Fer- moy threw at them. Youghal made their first substitution and introduced Chris up front instead of Conor. The second goal from Youghal was well worked down the right, Dylan got the ball out quickly to James who in turn ran down the wing and his low cross was met by the in running Chris 2-1 to Youghal. It was all Youghal for the rest of the half with Man of the match Sean K, James who was fantastic Dow the right wing, Bradley and Chris all coming close to adding to the score. The third goal for Youghal came from another fantastic move involving almost the whole team the ball was moved from the back by captain fantastic Sean M into Sean K pushed into midfield to Bradley who in turn pushed it out to Ciaran who played a great ball down the wing to James who in turn got the ball across which was met by Aaron Mur who in turn took it around the on rushing keeper for Chris to finish the move with a great
team goal. Half time 3-1 to Youghal. The second half started with Fermoy press- ing and there was confusion in our defence which led to the ball not being cleared and Fermoy’s number 9 slot- ted the ball neatly into the corner of the net. Youghal were forced into making a couple of substitutions due to injury and this again paid dividend with William on the left wing. Sean K who was now in the heart of the defence due to an injury to Sean M played a lovely ball out

played Fermoy the wing to William
who ran at the defence and unleashed an unstoppable shot 4-2 to Youghal. The Youghal boys now had an extra pep in their step with the two Ryan’s playing very well Ryan H at CDM and Ryan T up front. The next and last goal came from another lovely move with Sean K controlling the de- fence passing the ball to Zdenek who in turn passed the ball to Ryan T who had come shirt to get the ball. Ryan played a beautiful ball into James who ran on and coolly slotted the ball neatly into the corner of the net. That would be the end of the scoring Youghal had another 4 or 5 chances but the Fermoy keeper kept them out. In the dying sec- onds of the match Fermoy were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box Dylan organised his wall. The ref blew his whistle the Fermoy player unleashed a great shot but Dylan dived to his right
saving what looked
like a certain goal it was the save of the game. There was no more time as the ref- eree blew for full time. Man of the match was Sean K brilliant performance well done Sean.

earlier in the week in the league away from home we then welcomed them to Ar- drath Park to do battle again but this time the stakes were higher. Fermoy got the bet- ter of us in the previous en- counter but we were miss- ing some key players so this time we were hoping to put a real challenge in to make it to the final. Our team of the day was
Agatha in goal with a back 4 of Lucy, Ava, Kate and Zuzanna. We decided to play Emily in front of the back 4 to quieten the Fer- moy attack. Our midfield 4 of Aoibhe our captain ,Hannah, Blaithin and Kel- lie along with Whitney up front made up our team for the day. The game started fast and we knew Fermoy would come at us from the off. The team tactics seemed to be working as planned and we withstand the ear- ly attacks and had a few chances of our own. Whit- ney made a few breaks in behind the Fermoy defence and was unlucky not to put us one up only the ball fell to her weaker left foot. We were on the attack again but when the ball broke we were caught on the counter attack and Fermoy went one up. Our heads seemed to drop a bit after this and we invited them on a couple of times but they were una- ble to punish us. Half time couldn’t come fast enough to regroup but when Zu- zanna got a knock to the head resulting in a corner to Fermoy, we had to bring Joanna on as a replacement. The corner resulted in a goal putting Fermoy 2 up.
Fermoy
Half time: Youghal 0 - 2 At halftime we made a
couple of changes to forma- tion and go for broke. The girls really did start bright in the second half and the changes seemed to be work- ing. The girls were working really hard to get back in the game and subs Molly Leah and Emma really tried to break down a very solid Fermoy defence. Unfortu- nately luck was not on our side and Fermoy got a third. We bowed out of the cup at the semi final stage. We were
disappointed not to
make the final but when you take a look at what we have achieved this year it really wasn’t that bad at all. This is our first year in a com- petitive league, we made it to the league cup semi final and are third in the league with 3 games to play. Other teams are playing compet- itive soccer for years and have never achieved what the Youghal girls have done this year. The coaches nor- mally pick player of the match after every game but to be honest it wouldn’t be fair to give it to any single player as they all worked so hard and gave everything. Onwards and upwards we are looking forward to our last 3 league games and building and developing our U12 team. If anyone would like to get involved coaching or helping out there is plenty of opportuni- ties to be part of the rapidly growing girls soccer teams at Youghal United. Also if any girl from the ages of 9 upwards would like to play now is a perfect time to start as we will have some friend- ly games coming up over the next few weeks. Anyone
interested can contact Jonathan on 086 856 3292.
