East Cork Cycling Youghal Cycling Club
Easter Sunday was a
big day out for the club after all the Easter eggs were found, it was on to Leamybrien outside Dun- garvan for a charity cycle for Mental Health and Suicide
awareness this
is a great cause and you could see by the crowd of cyclist that turned up this has touched alot of people. The Youghal club had about 40 riders tak- ing part with some of the
group cycling down from Youghal doing the event which was 50km and cy- cling home after after the charity event this gave the group a total of 150 km and with a very strong head wind all the way back from Kilmeaden so a lot of tired legs after the day but I bet
they were
still able to eat a few small Easter eggs. A few more of the group met in Dun- garvan to get a bit extra

in and they finished with a total of 85km cover for a Sunday morning and even a few just headed to the start line and com- pleted the 50 km. This was a great day
out with all the riders well looked after with energy bars and fruit at the start and when we all made it back there was plenty of fine cakes and sandwich- es waiting for us. So a big well done to all involved. On the
Saturday
morning we also had a group heading out at 9 from Lidl and covering a flatish 70 km in the sun
shine, after heading for Ballymacoda and onto Garryvoe
before drop-
ping into the Village Green Grocer in Castle- martyr for the welcome break of coffee and even a few cakes after that
it
was onto to Midleton before we took the back roads back to Youghal and everyone ready for the Sunday spin. The
underage spins
are continuing again next Saturday so to get all the updates just check our Facebook pages and fol- low everything that is go- ing on in the club.

half, Carrigtwohill gave away a poor free

which led to the deci- sive goal for Passage. Al- though Carrigtwohill bat- tled hard against a very physical side, it was not to be their day as they could not haul back the deficit and it was Passage who were deserved winners. Liam Moore, Keelan O’ Brien and Mark O’Connor were standout
our players. Eric

disappoint putting on a 6 goal thriller which had the supporters enthralled. This is a match which
couldn’t have started any better for Carrigtwohill, who went 2 goals up with- in 5 minutes. From the kick-off, it was clear that Wilton could not handle the wing play of Abdul Rahim and he won an early corner from which Evan Donnelly
sweetly
finished to continue his goal scoring streak. Shortly afterwards Anesh Swani direct
scored from a free kick
which deceived attackers and defenders alike to find the corner of the net. Abdul continued to
create chances and Ro- nan Ymedi came close to scoring the third. It seemed to be all one way traffic for the first 15 min- utes of the match. These teams have met
four times over the last two years, with rarely a goal between them and Wilton to their credit found their feet. They took control at midfield and started to create chances of their own with their number 9 finding space to trouble the Car- rigtwohill defence
with
Bartek having to be alert in goals. Wilton pulled a goal back and this was a dou-

both defence and mid- field had to be reshuffled. Wilton now came roaring back into the match and levelled just before half- time when Carrigtwohill really should have cleared their lines. The second half was an open and lively af- fair. Ronan continued to make chances, but Wil- ton had managed to cur- tail Abdul. It was proving difficult for either team to
control the match, as it was end to end action. Alex Canty returned to

despite this they were not yielding up chances to the Wilton attack with Victor, now between the posts not being troubled too much. However, it was ob-

easy for them to get de- flated but they re-dou- bled their efforts and continued to threaten. They managed to hit the post from a long range shot and then with just 10 minutes remaining, they won a contentious penal- ty. Their dangerous num- ber nine made no mistake from the spot and it was now 3-3 The final few minutes
were like a Cup Final, with both teams giving their all in order to find a winner. Carrigtwohill came very close when Abdul broke

to both
teams – it might have felt
like points dropped
but with 4 matches left to play it could prove to be vital as Carrigtwohill push for one of the pro- motion places. Player of the Match: Evan Donnelly
