Minister David Stanton Encourages Community Groups to Apply for Newly Available CCTV Funding
Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stan- ton, is encouraging lo- cal groups to apply for a new grant scheme for community CCTV sys- tems. “This new scheme was launched by my colleague, An Tanaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald TD, to as- sist community groups to establish communi- ty-based CCTV systems. Under the scheme, eli- gible community groups can apply for grant-aid of up to 60% of the to- tal capital cost of a pro- posed CCTV system, up to a maximum grant of €40,000. Upon approv- al of the grant, the appli-
cant will receive an up- front payment of 50% of the grant
with the
balance to be paid when the system becomes fully operational. “Some
objectives
of the of
the key new
scheme are to enhance existing policing provi- sion within the commu- nity, to prevent or reduce crime
and anti-social
activity and to increase community involvement in the provision of in- tegrated responses to crime in local areas in association with appro- priate agencies. “I am delighted to
see the Government fol- lowing through on the commitments set out in the Programme for Gov- ernment.
Fine Gael is committed to continuing
to strengthen and update Ireland’s laws to tackle new and emerging crime trends.
