Flying the flag for Bal-
lymore Cobh A.C. over the water! Very well done to
Kathryn Carruthers who placed 1st
in her category
at the Windsor & Eaton Half Marathon on 18th of March. A fine time of 1:39:20 was recorded by Kathryn. Closer to home, we
had 11 members taking part in the Mallow 10 Mile Race on a morn- ing of brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures of 16 degrees on 26th
of
March. There was a personal
best (pb) for Leilia Pend- er (1:26:31) and Stephen Ryan (1:10:49), with Maria Coffey (1:19:22) and Fergal Quinlan (1:09:45) the first lady
and gent over the line for us, respectively. Among our club mem-
bers taking part in the Emer Casey Memorial 5k in Youghal on 6th
of
April, there was a terrific performance from Seán Manly Kelly (18:16) as he scooped up 1st
place in the Male Junior category.
More heat and more pb’s! 9th
of April, and un-
der the Dutch sun in 21 degrees of heat, Orla O’Rourke
(3:17:29),
Fergal Quinlan (3:24:27) and Stephen Pender (3:26:38) competed with some of the world’s top athletes in the Rotterdam Marathon and acquitted themselves with aplomb. There were pb’s for
Stephen and Orla, with Orla securing the added bonus of a 1st
place cate-
gory finish in a marathon field of 15,450 athletes. Astounding running! Ballymore Cobh A.C.
were delighted to be in- volved in assisting with the organising of the Great Island 10 & 4 Mile Races on 9th
of April. With 75% of proceeds
going to the Irish Cancer Society and the remain- der to the club, this event attracted over 600 com- petitors. 53 Ballymore Cobh
athletes took part in the 10 mile race, with 32 tak- ing up the 4 mile option. The pick of the bunch
has to be Brendan Ryan, securing a superb 5th place finish amongst the over 400 athletes in the 10 mile race - the well-earned fruit of his labours being a pb of 1:03:10.
