Another Proud Performance by Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir At Concert in Aid of the Cork Guide Dogs

by ALAN SHEEHAN Carrigtwohill Gospel

Choir’s performance at the Jubilation concert in aid of Cork Guide Dogs was very well supported on Sunday, 9 April. Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir supported head- line

acts multi-award winning classical singer Amanda Neri and mul- ti-platinum selling Chirs- tian and Gospel singer James Kilbane at con- cert, Jubilation- Songs of Gospel and Inspiration, which took place at St Finbarr’s South Church in Cork City. “Amanda Neri was stunning as always,” said

Aoibheann Carey-Phil- pott, Choir Director of Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir. “And James Kil- bane – he has a stunning voice but he is a show- man as well. There was even impromptu parts to the performance, like when James asked us to join in on the end of ‘I Saw the Light’. The song isn’t in our repertoire but we did it anyway and it went over well. It was lovely. St Finbarrs is a beautiful church and has good acoustics. We really did enjoy the night.” Ballinspittle

Com-

haltas, St John’s Gospel Choir and Ceoiltoiri na Farraigi also performed

on the night while Tom Doyle was the accompa- nist.

“It started when

Amanda Neri was ap- proached by Irish Guide Dogs and asked if she would do a charity gig, “said Ms Carey-Philpott “She accepted and be- gan putting the concert together. Jubilation was the theme. She got on to us and said, ‘You are a good group for the uplift- ing songs’ and we glad to perform.” The

Carrigtwohill

Gospel Choir was formed in 2010 and now consists of 50 amateur and professional singers, and not just from Ireland

but from France, Den-

mark, Nigeria, and Scot- land. The choir has since performed all across Cork City and County at concerts, festivals, and wedding ceremonies Next up for the Car-

ed about the Everyman gig,” said Ms Carey-Phil- pott. “David is fairly leg- endary. He is considered one of the great Ameri- can pianists of his time and he has taken a shine to the White Horse Gui- tar Club. The Everyman is a beautiful venue. I think downstairs is sold out but

there tickets available are still for up-

stairs. It should be a real- ly good night. It is all go at the moment but it is all good. We really worked our butts off for the Fota House gig on 10 March and when you put in that kind of work at the start of the year you reap the rewards as you go on.”

Special Birthday for Con Walsh Special birthday good wishes to Con Walsh, Ro-

Con welcomed everyone present and thanked them for coming especially his good, long standing friend Joe McCarthy, Cork, who paid trib- ute to Con and as only Joe can do he entertained the crowd with a series of hilarious jokes. People from sporting and other organisation’s to which Con gave his allegiance were present as a tribute to Con and his daughter Emily, Husband and grandchildren were very proud of their Dad and Grandad, as was Con of them of course. Delicious refreshments were served to all and the dancing started to the music of Tony and Aidan and continued till late. Con thanked the staff of East Cork Golf Club for their help and kindness to all and for making their premises available.

It

was a very nostalgic and memorable night for Con and good luck to him for many years of health and happiness. From Kathleen Woulfe.
