plenty of humus and warm pita bread. Just really good food.

The Peabody Hotel, 149 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103 901-529-4000 (peabodymemphis.com) In Room Dining: On my first night in

Memphis I didn’t feel up to hitting the town so I ordered from room service. I must note here that I have never received my room serv- ice order more quickly than I did here. I or- dered The Peabody Cobb Salad ($14.50), a work of culinary art with Hearts of Romaine lettuce, chopped Applewood Smoked Bacon, Tomato, Grilled Chicken, Boiled Eggs, bleu cheese crumbles, fresh avocado and balsamic vinaigrette. It was delivered with the dressing on the side, just as I had asked and presented in a fashion fit for a king. So good. Located inside the Peabody is the Capriccio

Grill Italian Steakhouse, a restaurant we fre- quented during our time in Memphis. They boast an amazing breakfast buffet ($13.95) featuring fluffy eggs, Applewood bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, grits or breakfast po- tatoes and pretty much anything else you need for the morning meal. Of course they offer a wide variety of choices for lunch, and when evening rolls around, the lights dim and Capriccio’s becomes one of the most presti- gious fine dining restaurants in downtown Memphis. Simply wonderful.

Showman’s, 2540 Little Rock Road, Char- lotte, NC. (704)398-2240 While Showman’s offers a large menu full

of delectable foods, my eye went straight to the their Greek Salad. ($8.29) This salad was so huge I had to sub-divide it and take half back to my hotel room for dinner! There’s plenty of real, honest to goodness gyro- ten- der and juicy - piled atop a mound of lettuce, cucumber, tomato, Greek peppers, olives and plenty of feta cheese. The house Greek dress- ing was sheer perfection, and served with warm pita on the side and a tall glass of iced

Whitey’s Fish Camp, 2032 County Rd 220, Fleming Island, Fl 32003 (904) 269-4198 whiteysfishcamp.com/ Yep. It’s the same fish camp that was a fa-

vorite of the late Ronnie Van Zant. This was my second visit to Whitey’s and I was in an oyster mood! I ordered a dozen (Market Price) and let me tell you, these bad boys were not the wimpy little excuses for oysters you sometimes get at some seafood houses. These Apalachicola oysters were monsters, fresh off the boat, juicy and tasty. All you need is cocktail sauce, a few saltines and lots

Oysters on the half-shell at Whitey’s.
