generous portion of stuffed grape leaves, along with fresh (and I do mean fresh) let- tuce, spinach, tomato, cucumber, parsley, feta cheese and Dolma. The house dressing is the perfect compliment for this awesome salad. I highly recommend it. Of course they also offer a wide variety of sandwiches, Kebab plates, specialty plates and more. Something for everyone. As for me, I am about ready for another one of those salads!
Cribb’s Kitchen, 226 W Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29306 (864) 699-9669 (
cribbsonmain.com/home) Quickly becoming one of Spartanburg’s
best loved live music venues, Cribbs is first and foremost a restaurant. When we were in to see Zataban play, we ordered drinks and the Special of the day, Provencal mussels - with garlic, onions, tomatoes & white wine butter, served with grilled focaccia bread. All I can say is, “mmmm!” Good stuff. If you are in Spartanburg, be sure to check out the wide and varied menu at Cribbs.
Swamper’s in The Muscle Shoals Marriott,
10 Hightower Pl, Florence, AL 35630 (256) 246-3663. Great live music only adds to the ambiance at Swampers, a fine restaurant lo- cated inside the Muscle Shoals Marriott. When I was in town for my book signing, my buddy Rick Cash and I enjoyed an outstand- ing dinner here. I ordered the grilled rib eye steak with roasted buttermilk mashed pota- toes, caramelized onion green beans, and some mighty fine house-made steak sauce (10 Oz $21.99; 14 Oz $25.99) Just because I had not had them in so long, I also ordered a side of fried green tomatoes. ($3.49) While there was no way I could finish all of that food, the part I did eat was delicious. The steak was tender, and everything was fresh and tasty. During our stay we returned again for dinner the next night and also enjoyed their breakfast buffet. Good food, no matter what you are looking for from burgers to grits!

Sweet Peppers Deli, 619 Avalon Ave., Mus- cle Shoals, Alabama (256) 383-8800 (
sweetpeppersdeli.com) Before heading over to FAME Studios for Rick Hall’s book signing, me and my buddy Rick Cash joined Dick Cooper for an excellent lunch at Sweet Pep- per’s Deli. Not all chain restaurants are cre- ated equal, and Sweet Peppers is most assuredly a good one. I was in a starchy mood, so I ordered up the Loaded Baked Po- tato ($6.99) and iced tea. Now, this potato was huge. Easily enough for two, I managed to damage about half of it, but man was it good. Filled with ham, turkey, crisp bacon, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, green onions, and black olives with butter and sour cream on the side. You just think you have seen a loaded baked potato. I beg to differ. They also offer a wide variety of goodies from various paninis and wraps to specialty and “build your own” sandwiches, soups, appetiz- ers and salads. I believe Cooper ordered The Big Greek Humus Salad ($6.99), which I con- sidered at first myself. A huge salad with
