BROTHERS OF THE ROAD- My special guests at The Big House in Macon: Donnie Winters, Harvey Dalton Arnold, Tommy Talton, myself and Denny Walley. (Photo by L. Wayne Skaggs)
cats and dogs. Robert and his crew had adapted, and the extra-large covered stage area became the venue. The musicians were set up on the left and the audience and the book signing table on the right. Marsha Lun- trell and them from Mercer Press had every- thing set up when we arrived, and Tommy Talton had set up the Bose P.A. that his friend John Zibrida had kindly allowed us to use. (Thanks John!) There were a lot of good folks there that
day including Kirk West, Alan and Christian Walden, Terry Reeves Martin, and a good friend from back home, Hal Steward, who drove down for the show. So many others. My very special musical guests were
Tommy Talton, Harvey Dalton Arnold (The Outlaws), Donnie Winters (Winters Brothers Band) and Denny Walley (Frank Zappa. Captain Beefheart). After signing a few books, I made my way to the stage area, where I was flanked by Donnie and Harvey. We would perform in a “guitar pull” style, singing a song and then passing the baton to the next guy, while everyone played along.
After our 45 minute or so set, I made my way to the signing table again and met some awe- some folks and signed a lot of Rebel Yell books. I was having a blast, right on the prop- erty where Dickey Betts wrote “Blue Sky” and “Ramblin’ Man.” Cool. Tommy Talton asked Donnie Winters to
join him on Dobro and Denny Walley on slide guitar. They turned in an excellent set. At one point, Macon music icon Alan Walden took to the stage to welcome everyone and said some mighty fine things about me. Enough to make a Buffalo blush. For the record, here are the songs per- formed that rainy day in Georgia:
First Set: (Not in order) Harvey Dalton Arnold: Cold and Lonesome; Early Bird (orig- inal); There Goes Another Love Song. Michael Buffalo: Fire On The Mountain; Can’t You See; Stormy Monday. Donnie Winters: Sang Her Love Songs; Shotgun Rider; If I'm Lucky; Long Haired Country Boy ; Rosita
Second Set: Tommy Talton, guitar and vocals
