GOOD EATS

by Michael Buffalo Smith I can honestly say that I have totally given

up fast-food and drive up windows after far too many years of ingesting the poison they propagate. Well, that is, until the fourth day of May (May the Fourth Be With You) I was running around and was so busy, I thought I would run through Arby’s. After all, they had been heavily advertising their new “Gyro” sandwiches. It looked so good on TV, but don’t they always? I recalled the days when I was living in Greenville and would hit up Pete’s or The Acropolis for a real, honest to God, Gyro sandwich. My first complaint is that I thought I was

getting lamb, like a real Gyro. Nope. Roast beef. To me, it ceased being a Gyro at that point. But then came the wrap. I have had some mighty fine Gyro’s in the past, so I know what is good. The wrap on the Arby’s “Gyro” is not good. It is all “doughy,” like it needed to be toasted or cooked. Okay, I have made my point. On a five star rating system, I must give the Arby’s Gyro a zero.

The Velo Fellow, 1 Augusta Street, Suite 126, Greenville, SC (thevelofellow.com) While the Velo is a full service restaurant,

my own experience with them has been lim- ited to their Sunday brunch (10:30 - 2:30) I joined my kids and family for a wonderful outdoor brunch few weeks ago. The brunch menu is packed with goodies, from the Eggs Benedict ($9.95) to omelets, Belgian Waffles, and Croissants stuffed with Cherrywood

Smoked Ham, fresh eggs and Swiss cheese ($7.95). Start your day off right with a little hair of the dog - a nice Bloody Mary ($4.25) or Mimosa ($3.00). Beer and wine are also available, as well as coffee, tea, O.J., hot tea or chocolate. I was staring a hole through my menu when the pretty young server stepped up to our table to announce the day’s special, a Buffalo Burrito. Sold! ($9.95) This burrito was packed with fresh bison meat and all the fixins. It was a sheer delight. You just can’t go wrong with buffalo! The Velo Fellow. Check ‘em out.

Also located in the ever growing West End of Greenville is a wonderful little unassuming restaurant called Green Lettuce (19 Au- gusta St, Greenville, SC 29601, (864) 250- 9650, greenlettuceusa.com) I met a friend for lunch at Green Lettuce recently, and found it to be a really nice place with quite a lot to offer. Based on my friend’s recommendation I ordered the Dolma Salad ($9.00), featuring a
