The Wildwoods Convention Center in
Wildwood, NJ plays host to a number of trade shows and consumer shows throughout the year
With an emphasis on trade shows bringing industry peers togeth- er under one roof and business being conducted face-to-face, KBIS recently joined forces with another monumental trade show.
Developments in 2013 have brought the NKBA and the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) together with an agree- ment to co-locate KBIS along with the International Builders’ Show (IBS) at the Las Vegas Convention Center in February of 2014.
This new mega-event, “Design and Construction Week,” will pres- ent both shows concurrently; each within its own separate hall.
The conclave will welcome kitchen and bath brands that have participated in both shows to choose to exhibit in the KBIS or IBS hall. One pass will provide access to both exhibitions. Additionally, both shows will continue to produce separate edu- cational programming and their own special events.
“The value of a trade show is that industry buyers are able to see the latest products and innovations from a combination of new and established brands,” said Brian Pagel, vice president of Kitchen and Bath Group at Emerald Expositions, the KBIS show producer. “In many cases, these products are being unveiled for the first time at these events. Attendees have opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues, establish new relationships and work on professional certifications. Regardless of the market, it’s very difficult to replicate the value of these face-to-face interac- tions.”
Pagel said that the many benefits of trade shows include: net- working, product knowledge, education and gathering new

ideas and insights. The ability to touch and feel products, as well as to establish new vendor relationships, also provides significant benefits.
“KBIS joining forces with IBS under the umbrella of ‘Design and Construction Week’ in a co-location of shows is a perfect exam- ple of providing attendees with maximum exposure,” he said. “We’re providing two shows for the price of one.” KBIS’ 50th anniversary was celebrated at its most recent annual trade show. More than just an exhibition of new products, it fea- tured industry insights, educational programming, product inno- vation, cutting-edge technology, exciting events and forward- thinking design.
The expanded NKBA conference experienced standing room only sessions. Events on and off the show floor, such as anniver- sary celebrations, were part of the three-day KBIS trade show experience.
TIPS FOR A SUCCESS ON THE TRADE SHOW FLOOR
Whether an exhibitor, attendee or as a member of the host facil- ity staff, the aforementioned industry professionals offered up some tips and suggestions on ways to make the most of any trade show experience.
Brockstedt said that in her experience at Chase Center on the Riverfront, for a trade show to be great, attendees and exhibitors need to be adequately prepared.
