nation today. With charter accreditation by the Association Management Company Institute, it brings commitment to quality and dedication to its industry.
The company’s interesting and noteworthy background dates back to the 1880s with T. James Fernley, a successful hardware wholesaler who was a member of the Hardware Merchants and Manufacturers Association of Philadelphia. Fernley looked to this association for industry information and as an opportunity to net- work with his peers, but saw a need for more leadership. As a result, he soon took an active role in helping to manage the association.
His son, Thomas A. Fernley, Sr., soon joined his father and they earned a reputation for exceptional organizational and leadership skills. By 1909, many other international associations wanted the duo to serve as their organization’s management team. That’s when the nation’s first association management company was born. During the last century, more generations of the family have guided the firm to new levels of service, commitment and expertise.
Today, Fernley & Fernley provides a com- plete range of strategic and operational management services to international, national, state and regional trade associa- tions and professional societies. The com- pany meets the needs of clients by offering three lines of business: Full Service by Fernley; Hub by Fernley; and Premier Meetings by Fernley.
Premier Meetings by Fernley orchestrates eight trade shows annually. According to Monica Mobley, CMP (certified meeting planner) and managing director for Fernley & Fernley, these trade shows pro- vide an opportunity for association mem- bers to connect with colleagues and indus- try experts. They connect on a personal level and learn about new innovations or resources that may enhance their careers or businesses.
“Association members participate in trade shows for professional development, one- on-one connections with industry and pro- fession specialists,” said Mobley. “Trade shows are advantageous for exhibitors because they’re an efficient and cost-effec-
