bring in the resulting convention to our area in two or three years. We would never look at a small group and say ‘we don’t have time for you.’ We treat small groups like anyone else. We’re going to make sure that your experience from top to bottom is very similar to what you would have whether you represent a 50 person seminar or a 250 person three- day convention.”
Kaminetsky further states that the Lehigh Valley is so diverse in its meeting facili- ties that small meeting groups tend to work very well there because there are so many options for them. “These groups tend to fit the best at our unique meeting sites, such as the Allentown Brewworks, Coca Cola Park, or one of our museums like America on Wheels in Allentown. Oftentimes, these smaller groups are more flexible about where their meeting can take place and where the overnight rooms will be, so they are willing to think ‘outside of the box’ because they are coordinating for a lot fewer people. And
that tends to be one of our strengths - booking the meetings and helping to drive business to hotel properties that don’t have meeting facilities on site. It allows us to expose properties that may not be able to get that business other- wise.”
Kaminetsky adds that the Lehigh Valley’s location is very helpful due to it being drivable from many major cities. He says that it is often a more affordable destina- tion, as well. “Most properties don’t charge for parking or other additional fees that may deter groups from choos- ing larger destinations.”
One example of a recent partnership with a smaller group was Discover Lehigh Valley’s work with the Pennsylvania Association of Travel and Tourism’s Fall CMO conference gather- ing. This event consisted of CVB repre- sentatives from throughout the state, and it took place at the Sands Bethlehem Resort and Casino. “We had 140 people in
