“The groups who hold meetings here par- ticularly like our Treasure Place Hunt,” says Figueroa. “It combines local lore and his- tory, and is a great team building event. Each team participates in a scavenger hunt inspired by Native American locations, such as the Konkey Hole natural spring. Those taking part learn about the history of the region and report back with their find- ings. Some folks meet or socialize in our Secret Gardens, a very private place that is designed to motivate.”
The innkeeper points out the lure of the site’s history blends seamlessly with all the latest conveniences. “We have exceptional food prepared by fantastic chefs, spa serv- ices, the latest in technology, skylights installed in exposed barn beams, acres of meadowland and tons of natural light pouring through giant windows. We also offer a full-time event coor- dinator to help organizations mount their meetings and events. Our setting is extremely conducive to creativity and pro- ductivity,” assures Figueroa.
When matching meetings with history is the planner’s goal, the Valley Forge Convention and Visitors Bureau (VFCVB) brims over with suggestions.
Bill Fitzgerald, VFCVB president, notes that people tie Valley Forge and history togeth- er as a pair. “Whether the group is corpo- rate or social, the question is: How can we tie history into our theme? A bus tour around Valley Forge Park is an excellent meeting segment. By choosing a legendary site such as General Warren Inne, William Penn Inn, or Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center for a full day of pro- grams that concludes with delicious food, planners can provide a very memorable experience for their group.”
Fitzgerald points out that if planners pick the Valley Forge area, they generally already know about its history and want to capture it as part of their program in a fun way. “We can have George Washington stop by and say a few pithy words to perk up the organization’s audience.
