YARD OF ALE COMPETITION


7.30pm - The Square, High Street This legendary event never fails to please the huge crowds that gather to watch!


Holidaymakers, as well as our local ‘imbibers’, are invited to take part in this popular contest.


All you need is a steady hand, large throat and a stomach with the capacity of a concrete elephant.


This tradition dates back to the 17th century and the current world record for the Yard of Ale was set in 1985 by Peter Dowdeswell with a time of 5 seconds.


Come along to join the fun and have a go, maybe you could be this year’s Champion and win a prize? CARNIVAL 2012

KARL LATTIMER 7.30pm to 8.45pm - Seafront Karl, a young singer songwriter from Wareham, hit the scene last year by winning the ‘Swanage Talent Show’ and our own ‘Carnival’s Got Talent’ contest. He provides his own backing keyboard and writes, sings much of his own material.

8.30pm to 11.00pm with break for Fireworks - Sandpit Field


Like a 34 Ford ready to fire, its V8 motor hungry for gasoline, its 8 cylinders poised to pounce, Wild are ready to Rock ’n’ Roll! Be ready for a great night of songs from the 50s 60s 70s and 80s from all your favourite artistes.

RED DEVILS PARACHUTE DISPLAY TEAM


8.30pm - Landing on the Main Beach


Tonight we are, once again, very pleased to welcome back the spectacular Red Devils Parachute Display Team and look forward to another dramatic entrance to Carnival! The team will be parachuting across the bay through the darkening night sky, lit only by the glow of their trailing flares, and landing on the main beach with pinpoint accuracy. This will be an unforgettable experience.


So heads up at 8.20pm - will you be the first to spot them?

MUSIC ON THE STAGE THE REPTILES


9.00pm to 11.00pm with break for Fireworks - Seafront


Phenomenal performances have guaranteed a fifth year in succession for the fabulous Reptiles. A true rock pop show band, the Reptiles provide all-round entertainment and specialise in creating the magical sounds of the 60s and 70s.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY 9.45pm approximately - Seafront


These stunning evening displays are always one of the biggest attractions of Carnival week and tonight will be no exception as Pains Fireworks provides the first of this year’s three Fireworks Spectaculars.There are many vantage points around the bay whether from the Seafront, Recreation Ground, Sandpit Field, Downs or near the Quay, so make your way to any of these spots and await a thrilling time!


The display will be fired from the jetty in the centre of the bay, so you will have a great view from all across Swanage.


DON’T FORGET - to bring lots of loose change when you come tonight! Our volunteers will be among the crowd collecting for the benefiting charities.


NB If weather conditions prohibit tonight’s display taking place, it will be rearranged for tomorrow evening.


Don’t forget the Fireworks displays continue every Saturday night throughout August!

No Entry Fee - Join us in the Marquee to see what local Artists and Craftspeople have to offer. You will be able to buy unique gifts, souvenirs and watch demonstrations. Adults and children will also be able to create their own masterpiece with ‘Paint a Pebble’ for just £1.50 a go. CARNIVAL 2012
