Dorset Day

Monday 30th July, 11.00am to 4.00pm - Sandpit Field

Carnival Dorset Day will celebrate the wealth of local skills in our area. You will see an array of our home-grown talent demonstrating their trades, with the opportunity for you to try your hand at some of the wonderful local skills.

Demonstrators will include woodsmen, stone carvers, hurdle makers, knitters, spinners and a boat builder. To create a fun and lively atmosphere the talented fiddler ‘Titch’ of the famous Black Sheep band will be serenading the crowds during the day.

Local woodsman Toby will be demonstrating some of the processes he uses to turn greenwood into furniture, kitchenware and much more. He will also be on hand to explain how he makes his Purbeck charcoal.

Being nestled in the home of our exclusive Purbeck Stone it wouldn’t be a proper Dorset Day if we weren’t to showcase this fantastic local resource. To give you a closer look we have invited representatives from Burngate Stone Carving Centre to demonstrate traditional stone carving skills as well as letting you have a go for yourself!

A traditional hurdle maker will be weaving the natural barriers from locally sourced wood demonstrating this special rural skill.

Spectators will have a rare opportunity to watch an accomplished boat builder at work using traditional and modern processes. You will also see the early stages and preparations for building a wooden canoe.

To further add to the mix, a group on knitters, spinners and crochet experts will be knitting and nattering through the day, providing advice and helping create a joint masterpiece! A superb and fascinating day for all ages, make sure you don’t miss out!

BINGO Monday 30th July, 8.00pm - Marquee, Sandpit Field Tuesday 31st July, 8.00pm - Herston Caravan & Camp Site

Look out for this motley crew! Every Tuesday night from April until October they can be found at Herston Caravan & Camp Site.

During Carnival Week they also hold a session in the Marquee on Monday evening.

Telling you to keep your eyes down for lines, houses, flyers and snowballs, they guarantee a fun-filled family night of entertainment.

They even have their own special language, ‘BINGO LINGO’, so come along and ‘quack, quack’ for ‘two little ducks’, whistle for ‘legs eleven’ and, who knows, you could be ‘top of the shop’!

At £6.00 for 6 cards, 6 flyers and 6 snowballs, the Bingo nights must be some of the best value evenings out you can find.

In past years Bingo has raised many thousands of pounds for Carnival Funds. We are extremely grateful to this dedicated team of Committee Members who work all season. Grateful thanks to Funworld that supply us with Teddies for our Raffles. Thank you.
