PRE-CARNIVAL EVENT SWANAGE HALF MARATHON Saturday 14th July, 9.30am - Starting on the Seafront

The Olympic torch passes through Swanage the day before the Swanage Half Marathon, setting the scene for this fantastic race. This challenging half marathon course remains unchanged from last year, taking runners on a hilly circular route from Swanage to Corfe Castle on the North side of Nine Barrow Down and returning via the lanes on the South side of the hill. The route provides runners with the opportunity to take in some spectacular scenery, whilst participating in one of the South’s hardest half marathons. Last year saw a record number of entries and some fantastic times despite the rain, with Rob McTaggart first man over the line in a time of 1:14:13 and first lady Abigail Jones in just 1:26:57. We look forward to seeing old friends and new competitors take up the challenge in 2012.

IT’S A KNOCKOUT Saturday 28th July, 2.00pm - Sandpit Field

This year we have six teams taking part in this hugely popular ‘It’s a Knockout’. We will once again be entertaining you all with another nail-biting contest between our highly professional teams.

Three teams from our local emergency services, Lifeboat, Coastguards and Fire & Rescue, will be challenged by teams from Dorset Search & Rescue, House Magazine and UK Tiles Direct.

For those of you who saw this contest last year, you will know that there was ‘No Cheating’ and ‘Fair Play’ was the order of the day. Not quite true, but they all entered into the spirit of fun and laughter, and gave excellent entertainment.

What will they be challenged with this year? Well, we have devised some new and devious games, including some that will not be revealed to our teams until the day! But you can rest assured that all the teams will get ‘drenched’ as usual in our popular water games!

So, come along to Sandpit Field to see and support the team you would most like to win. We want lots of shouting and cheering, so make sure you are in good voice, bring your whistles, rattles and anything else that makes a noise and join in the fun.
