Acknowledgements We would like to thank our sponsors Swanage Bay View Caravan Park and The East Bar, Swanage for their generosity, without this financial help we would not be able to provide you with such a great and colourful Carnival Procession. In addition, without the help and constant support of all those who give their time so generously, today’s events could not have taken place. We would like to thank the local services, Lifeboat, Coastguards, Fire Service and Dorset Search & Rescue who are always ready to help when needed. Also, thanks go to the Police, Swanage Town Council and, of course, all the Participants on the floats, Costumed Walkers, drivers and all our supporters.

Many thanks to you all.

Queen, Tassia Horsley, from Bishopstoke also attended the evening.

A big ‘thank you’ goes to our sponsors, Town & Country Launderette, White Horse Inn, Ellis Jones, Solicitors, Harding Redmans and last but not least, Puzey & Co. Ltd. for the crowns and sashes.

Carnival Queen

This year’s Carnival Queen and Princess Competition was held on Friday 27th April at Swanage Bay View Holiday Park. The Princesses’ age groups were 9 to 12 years, 13 to 15 years and for the Queen, 16 years upwards.

The Judges had an extremely difficult job, due to the large number of girls that entered, but eventually chose - Queen, Tamsin Hosking aged 18 years, Senior Princess, Grace Kent aged 13 years and Junior Princess, Molly Parr aged 9 years. All three girls receive prize money and will get to keep their dresses. The girls are given the option to purchase their tiaras and sashes if they want, although they are partly sponsored by Puzey & Co. Ltd. Plumbing and Heating.

The girls are also invited to represent Swanage in a number of Carnivals, which include Christchurch, Ferndown, Bishopstoke, Bournemouth, Aylesham, Kent and Wareham. The UK Carnival Senior Queen, Katie Thornton, from Kent and the UK Junior

The Carnival Committee, together with the Queen and Princesses, would like to thank the judges for all their hard work on the competition night, which this year included Emma Grinstead from Corfest, James Chelton from Wareham, Swanage Mayor and Mayoress Bill Trite & Cheryl Hobbs, Alicia Gill from Frome Carnival, Lindsay Horsley from Bishopstoke Carnival and Robert Williams from Aylesham Carnival, who is also Managing Director of UK Carnivals.

I would also personally like to thank last year’s Carnival Queen and Princesses, Sarah Lane, Drew Hamilton and Maria Morgan, who will officially hand over their crowns on Saturday 28th July when they crown the new Carnival Court.

Thank you to members of Swanage Carnival Committee, Gary Toomer for all his help and support as well as chauffeuring us to all the other Carnivals, Kerry Pope for driving us in the processions, everyone who helped me including members of Swanage Carnival, the sponsors of the Carnival Court and a big thank you to anyone I have missed.

If anyone would like to contact me with regard to the girls, sponsoring this event or is interested in attending the UK Carnival Queen event and Firework Display at Disneyland, Paris, 6th - 9th November, please contact me through the Swanage Carnival website or www.ukcarnivals.co.uk. You do not need to be part of Carnival to attend this spectacular Disneyland event.

As you can imagine, the cost of putting on today’s events runs into many thousands of pounds. You will see our collectors around you throughout the day - indeed throughout the week, and just £1.00 in the collecting buckets will not only help enormously with the cost, but help us to support our many causes and change lives for the better.

Remember: Only give to collectors wearing Regatta & Carnival T-Shirts and carrying Carnival buckets. 11
