076 VENUE

RARE CLUB DUBAI, UAE EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST/AFRICA

Rare is another venue that has recently opened in the TECOM area of Dubai. Part of the Media Rotana Hotel, the multi-room lounge club was designed by Triangle Entertainment Services, under the direction of Triangle’s owner, Zahid Elian. Referred to by its owners as ‘The Place’, Rare is designed to offer different atmospheres and aesthetics from the various rooms. The venue opens in the evening and remains so until 3am, during which it makes a transition from lounge to small nightclub. When owners Nazih and Serge approached the project, they had a limited budget for the sound and lighting, but were convinced by Zahid to expand it to achieve the quality that they sought, and admired at venues like Quantum, Cavalli and Club 400. Triangle Entertainment Services now had the freedom to deliver a solution that could stand up next to these previous installations. A KV2 Audio speaker system was specified. Triangle Entertainment Services and Triangle Sound & Image are KV2 Audio distributors for Middle East, Gulf and North Africa. The system comprises 10 EX26 2-way speakers and four EX2.2 bass modules as the main system

and two EX12 speakers for DJ monitors. The compact EX26 is an active speaker with two six inch woofers and complete on board control - electronic crossovers, phase alignments, equalisation and speaker protection. It has been designed with quality and intelligibility in mind. With two high output, low frequency 12-inch drivers, the EX2.2 is capable of 130dB of sustained output. Finally, the balance offered by the EX12 monitors makes them an excellent choice for their purpose in this installation. All of the speakers are powered, which reduces the need for rack space - something that is especially valuable in venues where space is of a premium. A Whirlwind MIX-5S stereo mixer controls the system’s output, with equalisation from a Citronic AP231 dual band graphic equaliser and preamps from a KV2 VHD. DJs play through two Pioneer CDJ-2000 decks, which are linked to a DJM-2000 DJ mixer. The lighting scheme is designed around four Taglite LED spots and four Taglite LED wash lights. RGB colour changers are used along with the DTS Master Software 2.
