Improvements to museum lead to upgrade in visitor attraction rating

Paisley Museum has been upgraded to a 3-star visitor attraction by Visit Scotland. Renfrewshire Council’s Arts & Museums service have been working to make signifi cant improvements to Paisley Museum over the past year to enhance the experience for visitors.

Following the recommendations of the 2009 report from Visit Scotland, the museum now has new external banners to create a more dramatic and inviting entrance and highlight current and forthcoming exhibitions. Replacement internal signs also make it easier for visitors to navigate around the building.

A feedback wall has also been created to encourage customer feedback and to display further information about the Arts & Museum’s service. Additional drop-in children’s activities are also planned to create a more family-friendly environment. The introduction of hot drinks and a seating area in the main reception area have also been introduced.

Visit Scotland uses a fi ve-level rating scheme to indicate the level of customer care and range of facilities on offer at assessed establishments. A 3-star rating signifi es the venue has attained a level of ‘very good’.

Cllr Eileen McCartin, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Community and Family Care Policy Board, said: “This is a signifi cant achievement and is testament to the hard work of staff within the council’s arts and museums service. But we are not complacent and ongoing customer consultation will inform future development of the museum and the arts and museums service as a whole. I very much hope that visitors will appreciate the work carried out to date and will continue to support our wonderful museum and its collections.”
