local schools Duchal Nursery School Give your child the best start in life
The children have enjoyed learning about Autumnal changes. We have had great fun on our Autumnal walks, collecting leaves for leaf printing and sponge painting. We also enjoyed baking chocolate hedgehogs and have been planting seeds and bulbs.
We had a French breakfast to introduce the Red Teddies to French although they have been learning a few words and songs already with the Blue Teddies. We made our own croissants and some enjoyed dipping these into their chocolate chaud!
We had a visit from a representative of the Yorkhill Children’s Foundation. The children
collected
pennies in little boxes and the representative
explained how that money would be used to help other children.
The children have been working hard with Mrs Sinclair to produce the 2011 ‘Duchal Christmas Card’. This will shortly be available for sale.
The children are looking forward to their Halloween’ party with dressing up, dooking for apples and lots of games!
Kilbarchan Community Nursery Christmas Fayre Fun - Everyone Welcome
Our Christmas Fayre is on the 3rd December from 10am – 1pm. There will be stalls with crafts made by the children, Santa’s grotto; pocket money toys, home baking, crafts and much more. A GOOD FUN TIME GUARANTEED!! Come along, everyone is more than welcome. Enjoy the relaxed friendly atmosphere; soak up the spirit of Christmas away from the hustle and bustle of the shops.
We enjoyed a successful social evening at the end of September: there were wine and nibbles, lovely crafts to buy and a few nice bits and pieces for Christmas. The night was very well attended despite the weather and we raised over £400. Thank you once again for your support and generosity and a special thanks to all the stall holders.
This term the children have been learning about transport and developing an understanding of maps and routes. As part of this project the children, accompanied by staff and parents, have been on two local visits. The children travelled by bus to ‘Build a Bear’ at Braehead to see an adventure bear being made. All pre- school children will have an opportunity to take a bear home and record their experiences. A group also visited Thomas Cook travel agents in Johnstone to learn more about travel and transport and used the brochures they were given to set up their own Travel agents in the role play area.
Children have also been using their senses to identify textures and smells and making herb bags. For information regarding the nursery or the breakfast club, contact Margery Cameron on Tel: 01505 704839.
Langbank Playgroup
Duchal Nursery School has provided an excellent pre school education to the children of Kilmacolm and the surrounding area since 1967. Established by a group of parents who had no nursery provision for their children, it continues as a ‘parents co-operative’, so it is run by the people who know what is best for their children - their parents.
If you would like to come and visit the Nursery and meet the teachers please contact Head Teacher, Jean McCarthy, on: Tel. 01505 874358. Also visit our website at:

Houston Community Nursery
As always we are very busy here at Houston Community Nursery. Following on from our farm topic, we have been looking at Harvest and Autumn.
The seasonal changes have been a huge inspiration. We have been collecting leaves, twigs and conkers and have explored the patterns we can make when using them to paint with. We have been observing the changes in the weather and have designed our own wellie boots for our wall display. As the nights draw in we are looking at the Festival of Lights, Diwali, we are making our own diwas from modelling clay and tealights. During this topic we are looking at the patterns and rhythms in language and have even written our own autumn poem, we are listening to autumn poems and all our stories are rhyming stories.
We are looking forward to our Christmas Fayre on 27th November down here at the Carrick Centre from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
This young man came dressed for action as Langbank Playgroup enjoyed a wonderful Autumn trip to the fi re station and park in Port Glasgow. We were just arriving at the fi re station as an emergency call came through so it was very dramatic to watch the crew zoom off with lights fl ashing and siren blaring; luckily they weren’t away too long and were then able to show us around the fi re station and explain some fi re safety before letting us climb aboard and try out the hoses. Then another emergency call came in, so it was time to stand back and enjoy snacks whilst the crew did their job. They were soon back for the highlight of the our visit which was a chance to slide down the pole; many thanks to the crew at Port Glasgow for being so helpful and kind to us. Then we calmed down with a walk and play in the park before heading home for lunch. It was a brilliant morning and a wonderful new experience for children and carers alike.
We have many more exciting events planned for this term plus lots of time to play in the cosy Hall so please contact our Chair, Jacqueline on 01475 540728 for further details. Children from 2.5yrs to pre-school welcome from Langbank and surrounding areas.
