Celebrating the Arts in
Renfrewshire – Join Us!
In March 2012, Renfrewshire will be taking part in Music Nation - a weekend of music and performance around the UK and part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012. Music Nation has been created by the BBC in partnership with the organisation Making Music. Weaving Musical Threads will be Renfrewshire’s unique contribution to this celebration. The title comes from the weaving and thread making history of Renfrewshire and describes the intertwining of the various orchestras, choirs, artists, craftspeople, writers, musicians and dancers that will come together to celebrate and refl ect on Renfrewshire; its people, its history and its place in the world. Renfrewshire Council, Reid Kerr College, Paisley Abbey and local businesses are providing support to the committee of volunteers who are organising this event. Popular venues throughout the area will be available along with technical support. The design department at Reid Kerr College is assisting with a website so look for it when it goes on-line in early November. Thanks goes to Mairi Paterson from Uplawmoor for creating the logo. Mrs Paterson is also a member of
the Arkleston Singers which will join the Bishopton Art Group, Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group, St James Orchestra and many others at the event.
Renfrewshire is rich with dedicated musicians, singers, artists, writers, dancers, all working in true Olympic spirit towards excellence in their specifi c discipline and keen to share that talent with the people of Renfrewshire. Weaving Musical Threads is a real opportunity to show-off the breadth of activity and talent that is to be found here and create a legacy that helps develop creative links across Renfrewshire and beyond.
