After my meeting with senior offi cers of Renfrewshire’s Roads Department, a number of issues are now being investigated or implemented. Work to prevent fl ooding on Houston Road beyond the Bridge over the River Gryffe will be completed by the time you read this article, the badly potholed road surface close to Whirlie Road has been properly patched and the damaged drain adjacent to Crosslee Park has been reported with Scottish Water responsible for this repair. I have applied for a junction road sign for Houston Road/ Whirlie Road junction, near the school, and this has been accepted. As you can see from the results below, there is a need for a permanent speed indicator/controller for Southbound traffi c on Houston Road and this is currently being investigated by Renfrewshire’s Traffi c Section for suitability. The week long speed check on Houston Road between Whirlie Road and Crosslee Park, that was undertaken recently highlighted the excessive and reckless speeds by some drivers. The average speed northbound was 32mph and the

highest recorded speed reached 57mph while the average southbound speed was 37mph with the fastest recorded speed being 67mph.

Potholes in a number of areas in Houston, Crosslee and Brookfi eld have been reported.

The last uplift of the brown bins was scheduled for Monday 17th October in Brookfi eld and Friday 28th October in Houston and because of the early completion dates, I have contacted the Director of Environmental Services asking for the collection dates to be extended into November.

November bin collections are as follows:- Houston & Crosslee :- grey bins on Friday 4th and 18th blue bin and glass on 11th blue bin on 25th

Brookfi eld :- grey bins on Monday 7th and 21st blue bin on 14th

blue bin and glass on 28th

I was invited to St Benedict’s High School for their annual Awards Ceremony and I would like to pass on my congratulations to the award winners in all categories. Another invitation I was glad to accept was for the 3k run organised by Gryffe High School and involving the local Primary schools. My excuse for not participating was thankfully accepted however, it was pleasing to see so many children and staff involved. Well done to everyone.

Renfrewshire’s Housing Department has again been asked by me to ensure that the Whirlie Road car park and surrounds are included in a scheduled clean up. An offi cer will visit the site to appraise the need. The Parks Department has been asked to erect a barrier/railing at the entrance of the Crosslee playpark to prevent children running out onto the busy Whirlie Road.

My surgeries are held on the second Tuesday of each month in the Brookfi eld Village Hall from 6 - 6.45pm and in the Houston Village Hall from 7 - 8pm. I can be contacted by phone on 610018 or by e-mail at cllr. allan.noon@renfreshire.gov.uk or through Renfrewshire Council on 0141 840 3549

Johnstone set to lead the way on new development approach

Johnstone is set to lead the way on a new Scottish Government-backed approach for involving the community in planning and regeneration. The south west of Johnstone will be the focus of an intensive week-long series of events which will help the community shape the type of development in the area in the years ahead. Between Tuesday 1st November and Saturday 5th November, there will be an intensive series of planning and design presentations and workshops.

An Evening With Olivia Giles

St Machar’s Ranfurly Church presents an “An Evening with Olivia Giles”, on Saturday 12th November at 7.30pm. Olivia will speak about the charity she supports - ‘500 miles’ which raises funds to help amputees and disabled people in Malawi and Zambia.

This event will be held in St Machar’s Ranfurly Church Hall, Bridge of Weir. Free entry by tickets available from St Machar’s Church Sunday on 30th Oct and 6th Nov and in the Pirie at Freeland church or phone 613671. There will be an opportunity to donate to ‘500 miles’. Tea, coffee and home baking provided.

The unique feature of the ‘charrette’ as it is known is that members of the public work together with design consultants and planning specialists to create a vision and masterplan for development. At the end of the week, there will be a public exhibition of how the week’s ideas have been translated into plans and drawings. The fi nalised proposals will help establish the character and type of development over the next ten years in Corseford, Spateston, Cochrane Castle and Johnstone Castle.

Among the key opportunities already confi rmed for the public to come along and get involved will be the opening event at Johnstone High School Assembly Hall at 7pm on Tuesday 1st November. An interim Public Review Workshop will be held between at 7pm on Thursday 3rd November at Spateston Bowling Club.

The closing event will be held between 10.30am and 2pm at Johnstone High School Assembly Hall on Saturday 5th November.
