Hair Parade for Charity
Nicky at Canvass Hair Design is hosting a charity event in December in aid of My New Hair. This is a charity run from donations only and is a public advice and support network for cancer or alopecia clients. The charity also trains salons who become registered with them on how to help new and existing clients deal with their hair loss, arrange wigs and style them for each individual client.
The trauma of hair loss on top of dealing with cancer is huge, and the clients self esteem is greatly effected. Nicky told The Advertizer “I hope to be a support throughout the illness and by registering with My New Hair I can do that. The charity will give me nurse led training and technical support and are committed to continually updating it.”
“My New Hair aims to contribute towards some “psychological medicine” for a person experiencing hair loss. I want to offer a professional consultation but respectful of my clients needs throughout. It’s all about making them feel as amazing as I possibly can.”
The event will take place in the Kidston Church Hall, Kilmacolm on Thursday 1st of December from 7pm-9pm. Tickets are £10 and include a glass of wine, cupcake and a complimentary mini treatment………
..such as fi le n polish, makeover, back n shoulder massage - whatever you would like to try, and of course a chat about why its important to keep the charity going. To keep that network alive for our clients needs. There will also be a mini catwalk show from Canvass Hair Design.
Nicky is also looking for donations of wigs - if you’ve got one hiding away in a cupboard and would be happy for it to be cut and re-styled, please get in touch with Nicky, or hand in to Canvass Hair Design in Bridge of Weir.

Recently we meandered along the rolling countryside of the Piemonte area of North Italy, a 2 hour drive from Nice or Milan airports.
The fact that this was wine country was of course an attraction!
We visited the town of Alba, aptly called the town of 100 towers, and spent the night. 10 minutes from there in the tiny tranquil hamlet of Sinio in the charming castle of the same name originally built in 1152 and lovingly restored by Daniella the owner. We were warmly welcomed by her, offered a glass of Prosseco and then accompanied to one of the 13 bedrooms which was full of character. The sumptuous dinner that night, in the atmospheric restaurant, was enhanced with freshly grated white truffl es, which were in season and delicious local Barolo wine.
After breakfast
the next morning on the patio by manicured lawns and colourful fl ower beds, we reluctantly made our farewells to the extremely hospitable, friendly staff and continued our meanderings into the renowned Gavi wine area where we stumbled upon the Villa Sparina, whose story began in the 18th century as a farming and winery estate. It has undergone a lot of development over the last 7 years and is home to L’Ostelliere, a charming 4 star hotel and the exquisite, refi ned La Galliana restaurant, which specialises in typical dishes of the area.
The panoramic views from here were stunning and the peace and stillness of the whole estate lulled us into an almost meditative state…. or maybe it was too much Gavi wine!!
