Gryffe High School 3k Fun Run

On Thursday 22nd September, Gryffe High School had a fantastic fun run in aid of the British Heart Foundation. EVERY year group participated in the event as well as staff and also children from Houston and Bridge of Weir primary school. On the morning of the event, the PE department and the Sports Leaders were up at dawn busy preparing for the run.

Mr Johnson said ‘It is a fantastic event which brings the whole school together and it helps to raise awareness of all the pupils and parents to help the foundation. It is also great to see the variety of costumes people are wearing.’ Mrs Henderson added; ‘I think it’s going to be brilliant’.

Many pupils had used their imagination and created absolutely wonderful costumes as you can see from the pictures.

The ‘Keepy Uppy King’, local man Graeme Lightbody entertained the crowds by showing off his skills with a football.

All the pupils put everything into getting their best time, but most of all they really enthused about taking part.

The fi rst years were privileged to run with some celebrities:- Former Gryffe High pupil Steven Thompson, who is currently playing with local SPL side St Mirren, turned up to support the event and offer encouragement to our young runners. His manager, Danny Lennon was happy to take part and managed to complete the 3k in a very impressive time! Another Saints manager, this time St Johnstone’s Derek McInnes also came along to show his support.

Overall the event was a great success with Mr. O’Hare, the event organiser breathing a sigh of relief once the last runner made it to the Finishing line.

The winners were – Primary Girls - Maisie Hughie (Bridge of Weir PS); Primary Boys - Andrew MacAngus (Bridge of Weir PS); S1 Girls - Kerry MacAngus (Mackintosh); S1 Boys - Stefan Armstrong (Mackintosh); S2 Girls - Emma Kelly (Mackintosh); S2 Boys - Euan Trout (Mackintosh); S3 Girls - Gwen Gillham (Wallace); S3 Boys - Euan Gillham (Wallace); Senior Girls - Katie Gane (Burns); Senior Boys - Timothy Gray (Fleming); Congratulations to the winners and indeed all the participants!!
