Bridge of Weir Choral Society
The Bridge of Weir Choral Society are busy rehearsing for their Christmas concert in St Columba Church, Kilmacolm on Sunday 11th Dec at 7.30pm
The major item to be performed is Beatus Vir by Monteverdi. Written in 1630 it features six-part chorus and soloists, organ, and two violins with basso continuo. An earlier work, an anthem by England’s William Byrd, Sing Joyfully unto God is deservedly the most popular of his works. The choir will move to more modern times with Elgar’s The Snow, featuring an accompaniment by two violins. Two twentieth century pieces are also to be performed: Howell’s beautiful A Spotless Rose and Kenneth Leighton’s arrangement of the Coventry Carol, Lully Lulla. Bells Up Brass return by popular demand and there will be carols a-plenty for all.
The choir have recently been congratulating their conductor Andrew Nunn, studying for his Masters in Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, on his being awarded the Alexander Gibson Memorial Fellowship of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus.

Tulip Hair Design
Thursday 13th October saw Trisha and her team at ‘Tulip Hair Design’ host a Ladies Night within the salon in Livery Walk, Bridge of Weir. The event was held in support of ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ and The St Vincent’s Hospice ‘Handbag Appeal’.
On the night, the Tulip team provided numerous Blow Drys and Shellac manicures for many of the ladies who attended. An extra treat was provided by the ‘Naked Butlers’ who graced the salon for the evening serving cupcakes and refreshments! The resulting donations coupled by ticket sales from the raffl e of some amazing prizes and treatments meant a grand total of £1050 was raised for Breast Cancer Awareness. The St Vincent’s Hospice shop in Bridge of Weir received a large number of donated Handbags from our kind clients and all funds raised from the sale of the bags will go straight to the hospice.
Tulip would like to thank all those that attended the event and those who could not be there for their generous donations which made the evening a great success. Tulip Hair Design moved to Livery Walk, Bridge of Weir in May this year and appreciates all of the loyal clients that followed and thank all the new clients who have welcomed us to Bridge of Weir.
