SPATA and BISHTA continue to work hard to provide value for money for their members. We highlight four subscription benefits which add support and provide assistance to member businesses


1)THE SPATASHIELD BOND AND WARRANTY SCHEME


The scheme is intended to give reassurance to customers that SPATA members are covered, to ensure a pool is completed to SPATA Standards. In the unlikely event that a member cannot complete the pool, there is an insurance scheme in place, subject to the relevant terms and conditions that will complete the pool, or deal with any valid warranty issues.


SpataShield members should provide the customer with the SpataShield Relax leaflet when carrying out any quotation work. If the contract falls within the scope of the cover provided by SpataShield, members MUST provide the customer with a copy of the SpataShield Bond and Warranty Certificates (including the terms and conditions on the reverse). If the quotation is accepted, the customer must receive a signed Bond Certificate when the contract is made and in any event BEFORE any deposit is taken, or the work begins. A signed Warranty Certificate MUST be provided to the client at the time of practical completion. In the event of a claim from a client, it will only be valid if there is a relevant Bond and / or Warranty Certificate that has been signed and dated correctly and the claim is submitted in time.


Currently, only new domestic pools fall within the scope of SpataShield (not commercial contracts). Pool covers supplied as part of the installation contract are included. The maximum Contract Value Limit available under SpataShield is £150,000 (inc VAT). A summary of the items that are (and are not) valid can be viewed in the relevant member factsheet.

2)SPATA FLEET AND BISHTA FLEET SPATA and BISHTA have been working with the Fleet Department to provide members with an opportunity to benefit from bulk discounts on vehicle services. A document detailing the


benefits is available from the SPATA and BISHTA offices but the key points are: • Members can belong to the Fleet scheme, even if they only have one vehicle.


• Savings on purchasing new vehicles can be considerable – ranging from 5% to 38% through negotiated terms with vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.


• There are a number of services available free of charge to members, such as foreign travel guidance and authority issue, general guidance to drivers regarding benefit in kind / taxation and independent fleet policy advice.

3)SAVE MONEY ON FOREIGN EXCHANGE SGM-FX is a foreign currency broker based in the City of London. SGM can provide excellent exchange rates and a tailored personal service. Two products have been launched to help lift the financial burden on businesses when purchasing foreign currency. SPATA FX has been created to


help the members save money and time on currency purchases. BISHTA FX has also been set up with the same purpose of easing the strain that can be caused when entering the FX market. 4)STAKEHOLDER ACCOUNT This service was originally set up to alleviate the situation which can occur in disputes where the client will not make a payment because, rightly or wrongly, the client claims the works have either not been completed to a satisfactory standard, or part of the contract has not been completed at all. An impasse can occur and this is where either SPATA or BISHTA may be able to intervene successfully. The Stakeholder Account can also be used when there is no dispute, where a customer is being cautious about giving their money to the contractor or supplier. By placing the money in a ring fenced account, the goods or services can be provided, with both parties satisfied that the money is safe, but available to be sent when the goods or services have been received. Through discussion, a “Heads of Agreement” is reached about what work is needed to be done and what cost each element has to it. The agreement is then signed by the client and the member and is then provided to the SPATA or BISHTA office along with the money, which is placed in a client account. Once cleared funds have been received, the member proceeds with the work to meet the agreed timescale. So long as SPATA or BISHTA is assured that the money being deposited has a clearly identified snagging list that clarifies when payments can be made (in writing, in advance) then this will be accepted and administered without further payment at this time, as the interest earned on the money deposited in the Stakeholder Account will be retained by SPATA or BISHTA to cover its costs.
