SPN FEB 2011 PoolCleaners

The enduring popularity of “The Big Yellow One” is down to the design and functionality of the cleaning head

In 2009 Fairlocks added the distinctive Leapfrog pool maintenance and cleaning equipment to their range and are upping the ante still further in 2011 by introducing their first automatic cleaner.

Two new swimming pool cleaners – the Barracuda T5 Duo Suction and the Vortex 4 automatic robotic cleaner from Zodiac – join the collection available exclusively from Golden Coast for 2011.

Ergonomically designed and using less water to operate the T5 Duo Suction makes pool cleaning easy, having only one moving part – the Duralife ‘Dia Cyclone’ Diaphragm. This allows simple quiet operation and efficient enhanced performance; with 40% more suction power to clean a variety of pool shapes and surfaces: concrete, pebblecrete, quartzon, tile, fibreglass and vinyl.

The compact design makes its extremely manoeuvrable, while the ‘twist lock’ hose connector provides a stronger connection between each length of hose, preventing any loss of suction to improve water flow and achieve greater cleaning efficiency.

The Vortex 4 brings a new dimension to robotic pool cleaning, with the patented vortex system creating a powerful ‘whirlpool’ within the cleaner that can increase the suction power by up to 30%.

Debris swept up through the extra-large intake mouth by the new design of brushes remains in suspension during the cleaning process, preventing it from sticking to the walls of the unit

or clogging the large capacity filter, thus improving efficiency.

Operated by a remote wireless control, the unit has two cleaning cycles and can be programmed to operate for less than 30 minutes to in excess of an hour.

These latest additions to an already strong market are expected to help lift sales at the start of the new season.

Every spring sees sales of pool cleaners bringing a boost to the industry. Pool cleaners have taken away the chore of cleaning a pool and turned it into what many owners see as fun. Over the years cleaners have become an essential tool for the commercial and private pool owner – a single product to fit all shapes and sizes, remarkably durable and what is most important – suitable for any type of swimming pool finish. The message for some time has been if you have a pool - get an automatic pool cleaner. There is a clear season for purchases say retailers. It starts in March and as the pools start to be ‘opened up’ so the market takes off. The problem is often for the discerning owner how to make a choice of what to buy.

Almost without exception pool cleaners on the market in the UK are reliable and efficient. The critical thing is how hard do you want them to work; what element do you want to be automatic rather than manual and what is the shape of the pool which needs to be cleaned.

Certikin Dolphin Wave is still a relatively new addition to the market, a professional answer for commercial owners for cleaning Olympic and

public sized swimming pools. The product has an “intelligent” navigation and active brushing system which allows coverage for every size and shape of pool.

The Dolphin has won acclaim over the last 12 months from many local authority pools who wanted to invest in a trouble free reliable and automatic pool cleaner and found the Dolphin served their needs perfectly.

The Dolphin range which has up to ten products to choose from offers one of the widest choices on the market from small pool systems through to being able to deal with Olympic sized pools. Many come with three year warranties. SP Leisure based in Horley in Surrey offers the Cruiser brand of cleaners as back up to its Sunsoka pool system. There are two products offered. The Cruiser C400 is a suction-based cleaner which simply connects into a skimmer or vacuum point setting the cleaner in motion collecting debris and dust. The Cruiser C 600 takes pool cleaning on to the next level. The electric cleaner unit comes complete with 2.5 hour cleaning cycle and is suitable for pools up to 65m2.

Apart from its two new 2011 products there is real choice of Zodiac pool cleaners from Golden Coast – for residential and commercial pool owners, from the entry-level hydraulic diaphragm suction ‘Manta II’ or ‘G4’ to the ‘Barracuda’ electrically powered robotic ‘Lazernaut’ and ‘Indigo’ cleaners that think for themselves. The ‘Manta II’ and stable-mate ‘Barracuda G4’ use the pool’s own filtration system as the source of energy. The units connect to the skimmer or suction point without the need for additional equipment, allowing automatic random movement around the pool.

The ‘Manta II’ is simple, effective and silent moving quickly around the pool removing all types of debris whilst at the other end of the scale the ‘Barracuda G4’ has two grooved
