SWIM CLUB WITHOUT A POOL

East Kilbride Amateur Swimming Club has gained national fame as the swimming club without a swimming pool.

The £8m refurbishment of the Dollan Aqua Centre has been plagued by delays and spiraling costs since the pool closed in October 2008. It was expected to re-open within 14 months, but unforeseen asbestos problems forced South Lanarkshire Council to put back the re-opening date. Since then the club without a swimming pool has been scouring the area for alternative training facilities. In 2011 the club can only wait to see if the promise of a spring opening is kept to. Almost 7,000 people used the Dollan, one of only five 50 metre pools in Scotland. But as they continue to fight on, club president Andy Figgins said: ”It’s a swimming club with no swimming pool so we’ve been begging and borrowing a lot of the time to get by.”

IPHONE APPLICATION LATEST INNOVATION FROM LAMOTTE

A new iPhone application which allows the popular Insta-Test pool and spa test strips to be photo scanned has been launched on to the UK water testing market through Sword Scientific Ltd.

The company, which supplies scientific products for niche markets including the pharmaceutical and industrial industries, has exclusive distribution in Europe to the LaMotte range of water testing systems from the United States which includes the reliable Insta-Test strips, the multi- test ColorQ kits and the Pool MGR comparator system.

Sword Scientific Ltd which under the direction of Tim Schofield is now in its fifth year has lived up to its promise to give its pool and spa customers not only the best but the latest in water testing systems and technology.

Insta-LINK, the new iPhone application, was awarded third place for best ’green’ product at last autumn’s International Pool and Spa Expo in Texas.

The application eliminates the need to visually determine slight colour variations and also has a manual entry option that allows any smartphone or on-line PC user to enter the test results from their test kit or test strip.

In just seconds the programme can analyse the free chlorine, bromine, total chlorine, pH, alkalinity, total hardness, cyanuric acid, salt, biguanide or biguanide shock concentrations in the water and returns chemical treatment recommendations.

The programme allows pool and spa dealers to link directly with their customers, so dealer chemical brands can be recommended and dealer advertisements can be broadcast to Insta-LINK customer’s smartphones or PCs’. Dealers can also view their customer’s test results and pool water maintenance history.

The application is the latest introduction by Sword Scientific Ltd of the high quality LaMotte Pool and Spa test instruments from Maryland in the United States. Since 1919, LaMotte has been a leader in providing quality equipment and guidance for water analysis. Sword Scientifics’ Tim Schofield said: “The LaMotte products have always had a fantastic reputation. We’ve now been able to establish the right sort of relationships and product availability to allow easy access of the products into the UK and European market place. The Insta-Test is an unbeatable test system. We guarantee the Insta-Test pool and spa strips will help maintain proper free chlorine levels and balanced water.”

Tim Schofield said the pool industry is very important to its business and the business had succeeded in developing the brand across Europe and there was a strong UK awareness and appreciation of the testing products.

The unique, multi-test ColorQ hand-held photometer measures test factors directly on a digital display. Featuring an innovative dual-optic design, the ColorQ provides more accuracy and more test factors.

The ColorQ eliminates the need to visually determine slight colour variations or the use of look-up tables, which takes the guesswork out of pool-side water analysis.
