AstralPool’s trade seminars took to the road before Christmas – aimed at helping the specialist trade to sell in difficult times.

ASTRALPOOL SEMINARS AIM TO HELP SELLING IN DIFFICULT TIMES Technical forum

• upgrades (for greater comfort and automation): electronic cleaners, salt chlorinators or UV systems.

The venues were chosen for their good road and rail access and included Birmingham, Manchester and AstralPool’s Head Office in Fareham. In spite of the bad weather during they were popular and well- attended. The theme of gaining new business in difficult economic times was topical and well received. AstralPool started by identifying growth opportunities for residential pools, commercial pools and the wellness market.

Residential pool solutions High-end residential pools continue to be a growth area for some larger, specialist installers but new builds in the budget and medium size pool market continue to be significantly in decline. The opportunity is to put the focus on existing pools – particularly those 10 years old or more. By targeting existing pools a range of selling opportunities exist including: • green products: products which save running costs for both energy and water.

• lighting: LEDS • safety: automatic covers and alarms. • repairs: new filtration systems, pumps, filters, pipe work or retro- fit products, including grating, white goods, drains etc.

• maintenance: chemical products, cleaning equipment.

Identifying potential opportunities where existing pools can be generators of new business is the first step. The second very important step is to suggest an approach to pool owners to start the sales dialogue and identify upgrade opportunities. Astral then introduced the ‘Green Pool Audit’. Simply the pool company approaches an existing pool owner and offers a free pre-season ‘pool audit’ – a general check on a pools construction, function and equipment to analyse areas where the pool could be improved, repaired or made “greener” to save water and energy. Having identified key growth opportunities for residential pools and identified the “pool audit” approach, Astral went one step

further. Delegates were very

pleased to hear about a range of special offers and discounts on many of the products needed to refurbish, repair and maintain existing pools.

Commercial pools and wellness solutions

The seminars considered the public and private sectors for commercial pools. In the public sector there is a great deal of uncertainty regarding the Government’s budget cuts and how this will impact on the provision of public pools and leisure centres. One area identified as a growth opportunity in the private sector is the wellness market.

As the pressure and stress of life increases people are turning in significant numbers to the health and feeling of well-being generated by ‘wellness’ facilities. These include spas, saunas, steam rooms, hydro- therapy jets, massage treatments and much more.

The seminars identified the growth opportunities of cross-selling and added-value selling of linking pools to wellness – both in commercial and high-end residential applications.

AstralPool has a reputation for technical expertise and advice for its pool trade customers. This tradition was continued at the seminars with an informative session on commercial pool filtration. Topics covered safe bathing levels, types of filters and filter media, pump sizing and pipe sizing. For details of seminars for 2011 simply contact AstralPool.
