BIRMINGHAM AXES DIVING POOL
Birmingham sports chiefs have been criticised for removing a diving pool from the city’s proposed £58m Olympic- standard pool and aquatics centre. The decision to cut the diving pool from the complex, has been critised as being poorly timed as Britain now boasts a diving world champion in 16-year-old Tom Daley. Birmingham Aquatics and Leisure Centre, has been designed with a future Commonwealth Games bid in mind.
Council cabinet member for sport Martin Mullaney said: “Diving is now an optional sport for the Commonwealth Games. We do not need a diving pool at the BALC.” He said he had the support of the Amateur Swimming Association, or ASA, for the change.
CORNWALL TRIES TO SAVE ITS POOLS
Councillors in Cornwall have voted to slash £4m from its social budget as part of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review in a bid to save some of the county’s swimming pools. Under Cornwall Council‘s emergency budget, leisure services will lose £720,000 and library services £250,000. The reductions are part of £10m of cuts to front-line services that will see 2,000 jobs going – the document also included plans to make £170m in savings over the next four years. Council leaders said steps were being taken to save leisure centres and swimming pools under threat. Joan Symons, said the council had been holding discussions with Bude Town Council that could save Bude‘s famous Sea Pool.

NEW AUTOSAFE COVER HAS UNIQUE DESIGN SAYS DRIPOOL
Dripool has launched what it says is an, “off the shelf” safety cover that has a simple housing, is easy to install and has a great aesthetic finish, designed purely with the trade. The AutoSafe, an addition to Dripool’s product stable, uses the same winding technology and standards expected from fully automatic safety covers, but with a unique twist. The AutoSafe’s design allows the pool contractor to install the entire system quickly and easily without assistance, thus ensuring control of the project is maintained whilst dramatically reducing lead times. By simply informing them of pool dimensions and freeboard, Dripool will dispatch all equipment including a ready to fit cover in one of 16 colours. Whilst researching and developing the concept of a simple, own fit cover system, they realised that a new, simplified roller housing was also essential to make any preparation work as effortless as the cover installation itself. This completed, the AutoSafe was ready to roll.

With so much emphasis on ease of installation, simple housing etc, its initially possible to underestimate the combined elegance and unrivalled reliability that is, the AutoSafe, but by utilising superior winding technology, proven drive system, anodised aluminium tracking and high tensile stainless steel cables, that have been our staple for over 25 years, one can be assured that the AutoSafe will both meet and exceed every requirement. Dripool says it offers the pool
contractor, superb technical support from inception through to completion of the project with Dripool installation available for an additional cost if required. Following installation, Dripool will take responsibility for any ongoing customer requirements.
