WORK ON NEW 25 METRE POOL BEGINS After four years of campaigning and protest, building works on a new swimming pool have started on Forest Hill Pools in Dartmouth Road, Forest Hill. Works were given the go- ahead after Willmott Dixon was awarded the contract to build the centre to designs by Roberts Limbrick Architects. A 25 metre pool, a 16.7 metre learner pool,
community room and a café will be completed and due to open to the public at the end of 2012.
MORE CASH FOR SCHOOL SWIMMING? Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered a rethink on plans to cut funding for school sports in England. Education Secretary Michael Gove was asked to look again at the money available after Downing Street said the decision to cut school sports funding specially on athletics and swimming had been revisited because “there is some recognition this is being raised at local level”. The Department for Education said it would be “redeploying” existing resources and would state how they are going to allocate the money shortly. Shadow Education Secretary Andy Burnham has welcomed the change and along with two other shadow cabinet ministers have written to Mr Gove to offer to work with him to help retain the existing structure of partnership managers. The rethink follows a growing backlash against the plans to end £162m in direct funding for the last government’s strategy.
Spafix UK Ltd, the leading hot tub and spa repair company has launched its own retail outlet to meet the demands by customers for a local supplier of spares, chemical and accessories for spas and hot tubs. Spafix moved ‘down the road’ to new enlarged 4,500 sq foot premises on the Larchwood Business Centre in Havant, Hampshire, adjacent to major national retail outlets. The company does not sell spas or hot tubs but specialises in installation, servicing, repairs and maintenance of a range of major makes. It also has a thriving online parts sale service to support its commercial trade customers. Among the products now available from the shop is the UK’s most comprehensive range of ‘Essentials’ hot tub and spa accessories and chemicals, unique to Golden Coast. All the products in the shop will also be included on the company’s website, thereby
The new Spafix ‘shop’
extending the range of products available online.
“Although the shop opened at the end of last season we had a number of people come in and browse around and sold some accessories. In addition, we picked up several new pool owner customers who told us they would otherwise have to make a longer journey to collect what they wanted,” said Darren Waters, owner of Spafix.
“The shop is enabling us to stock
products that in the past we couldn’t handle because of lack of space, which means we are able to provide a better service to our existing and new customers.”
Spafix has contacted all its existing customers promoting the new facility.

MARATHON MAN PAUL RUNS FOR JUNIOR DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Fairlocks Paul Webb is in training for the 2011 London Marathon. Paul will be pounding the 26 mile course around London to raise money for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation; a charity that strives to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes and its complications. The charity is close to the hearts of the Webb family as daughter Kiera was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 14 in 2010. “May 27th 2010 is a date that will remain forever etched on my mind,” said Paul and continued: “Kiera has coped extremely well with her diabetes and we are so proud of her. There has to be a cure for this disease and charities like JDRS really need support if they are to continue with the vital work they do in finding one. I can promise everyone that I will give it my best shot on the day and all donations will be more than gratefully received.”

LONG HAUL DRIVER RECEIVES SERVICE AWARD
Heavy goods vehicle driver Paul Benham has joined a growing list of employees at Devon-based Golden
Coast receiving a long service award, having completed ten years unbroken service with the company.
Previously a motorbike instructor for the British Army, Paul, married with two children, joined the company as a driver in 2000 and over that time has travelled the length of the country delivering both large and small products to customers.
Excluding the three directors, six of the 31 total staff at the company have now received long service awards, for ten and in one case, 20 years service.
Presenting Paul with a commemorative gift, Jamie Adams, Managing Director, said that it was a privilege to have him working with the company and “doing such a great job out on the road as both a driver and an ambassador for the business”. “We are indebted to the loyalty shown by our colleagues. As a family run business and although an over-used description, we like to think that the company has retained that ‘family’ feeling. In the next few years several others on our team will also be eligible for such an award,” added Adams.
